Clubman: Do you know if the Sandy Springs suite has separate bedroom and living rooms. That is what I like about the Residence Garden but might pay a little bit more for something closer to the action.

After asking a similar question I received the following reply from Sandy Springs:-

"Dear sir

 

Thank you for your e-mail. I am so sorry our suite room has only 1 bed

room and 1 living room. The suite room rate is 2500 baht/room/night."

Yes the suites have two seperate rooms with a nice TV in each. Both the bedroom and living room have sliding doors going to the balcony. I think nice hotel and rooms and a better location than the RG, IMHO.

 

What I like is having the living room to use while your new best friend is sleeping in. Get a cup of coffee and news paper and watch TV while waiting for her to wake up.

Thanks for the replies. Now I may lean toward the Sandy Spring versus the RG. About 600 baht difference. You are right LeoTex about the need for seperate rooms. I like to wake early and the chance to go into the other room and watch tv or just read the paper is what I need. What is the "member rate"? Member of what?

The Sandy Spring has a 'membership' card for 350 baht. By using the card you can save on the rooms charge for night. Just as clubman posted you can get a discount. The suites go for 2500 baht, but with the membership card he got a rate of 1990 baht.

 

Even in a standard room you can recover the cost of the membership plus a little extra savings in three nights. When I stayed there during Songkran, I was told that the membership rate didn't apply to the suites on the 8th floor, due to the fact they were always booked because of the great 'seaview'. I will check when I'm back in a few weeks. Maybe because Songkran is high season was the reason. The view on the 7th floor is almost as good.

 

A few have posted that they can get the special rate by booking thru one of hotel travel site on line. I haven't seen this, but I also haven't looked. I have also used the membership card when booking two rooms and getting the discount for both rooms and my friend didn't need the card.

 

Again, IMHO, the Sandy Spring has the better location, and Soi 13 is a quiet street and near all the action. I better not say anything else good about this hotel, because Roland may accuse me of pimping the hotel for my good rate.

I am not arriving till January. Not sure about Sandy Spring now as 2500 baht is getting to pricey. Also I really do not want to book a room and give my credit card info over the net. I know I can book the RG without a credit card deposit. May get that for a few days and wander over to Sandy Spring and see if they have rooms available when am there.

Mate the suites are 2500 which can be discounted down. A standard room 990 and they are huge rooms. When you book over the net click pay cash button and guess what, you don't have to supply you credit card details. There is no deposit required if you book that way. Or use the Scandibar site..

For those who have stayed at Sandy Springs, what about street noise?

 

Can you hear the incessantly honking Baht buses, motorbikes, etc. from the rooms or is it fairly quiet?

 

Stayed in Tim's bar beer last time. Noise from 2nd rd was a bit of a problem.

I have a couple of questions of all you Sandy Spring clients. How do you buy a membership and get the special rate? I can't find anything on the hotel web site about the membership.

 

I have stayed in an 8th floor suite and have one booked for November. I thought I had read on this board or been told maybe in Pattaya that only the 8th floor suites have bathrooms with a separate shower and tub while those on the 7th floor have tub only. Can anyone advise if this is correct?

 

Since I have my reservation for 10 days at 2500 Baht, do you think I can buy the membership and get them to drop the rate to 1950 Baht? This would be a 5 LT saving. Anyone been able to persuade them to do that?

 

I would appreciate eveyone's advice and help.

Mate you are in Soi 13 no beer bars and it is about 1/2 way down the Soi, no traffic or beer bar noise at all.

Do Bangkok taxi/limo drivers from the airport generally find pattaya hotels easy?

 

I see it is a one way system on beach/2nd road so i am thinking that to get to Sandy spring they have to drive all the way down Sukhumvit rd to South Pattaya rd and then turn right at the bottom to lead you into 2nd road.

 

Have i got that right ?

 

Can i assume they know all the soi's / soi numbers , so if i just say soi 13 or soi sip-saam they will know where they are going ?

Best way is down Pattaya North Rd past Tescos onto the Dolphin roundabout and along Beach Rd and double back up Soi Post Office to Second Rd and then down Soi 13.

If you look for the Pizza Hut on Beach Rd that is Soi Post Office and gives you a landmark if the taxi driver isn't sure.

Roland's directions are the best, if the driver doesn't take North Pattaya Rd hopefully he'll take the Central Pattaya Rd and have him stay on it until he hits Beach Rd, then a left of Soi Yamoto or Soi Post Office.

Only one down side and that would be a deal breaker for me. NO INROOM SAFE.

Gotta keep running back and forth to the desk with all you toys. Camers, LapTop, PDA, MP Player not to mention stuff like passport, cash, credit cards, and things like jewelry and Rolex that go into the safe whilst enjoying your company. (Sorry for the mildness but this is a PG section)

After reading about several ways that thieves can compromise the in-room safes, you may be better served by the safety box at the front desk. I recall from my stay at the Hyatt in Manila several years ago being advised from an older Filipina working at the front desk to keep my valuables at the front desk. ( They had both in-room and front desk boxes). I suppose either way you are hosed if it is an inside job. Just MHO.

The guys are right, just head down beach and take the next turn on the left past Soi 13 into Soi Yamoto then left again into Second Rd then left again into Soi 13 and the Sandy Spring is 1/2 way down on the left hand side.

It's a real crap shot. First time down I took a expensive car service from the airport (not Alex) and the driver didn't speak English or know Pattaya. He wouldn't stop for directions. We wandered around aimlessly for it seemed like an eternity.
