What a contemptible piece of shit that man is. How the hell can anyone make fun out of the misery of Ken Bigley and his family, especially his mother and his Thai wife Sombat/Lek? OK, we've all blurted out stupid things in our lives, but this is an experienced "entertainer" who knew full well what he was saying. If he genuinely regretted it, why did he also swear at the audience, and then try to blame the whole thing on the media for "misrepresenting" him? I hope this does for his career what Kenny Everett's remark about Michael Foot did for his. :o

Seems like real-life is destined to become a 3rd class TV-entertainment in our post-industrial societies... :beer

Connolly is going to have to learn it the hard way- this is going to cost him some serious money regarding his future show-contracts. :nod :P

I think the man has lost the plot. He began hs career as a Working Class Comic, and was very popular in U.K.

My Scots freinds told me years ago, he was no longer as popular in Scotland since his envolvment with Royalty etc, changed his immage and lifestyle.

I wouldn't cross the road to see him now.-Prick !

I've not seen this story before, but it's got media stitch up written all over it.

Even if it is/was a media stitch-up, Connolly did make a joke involving a private person (as opposed to a public one) who was, at the time, in danger of becoming a victim of a public-to-be murder - and it did happen, eventually... :P

Given that these reports almost certainly originated in the British press, I wouldn't even take that much on faith. I just wonder if the press/media and their handling of the story were the real butt of any comments he may have made. :P

the big yin is my favourite comic but if he said this he was wrong, but having watched him for years I feel he was probbably missquoted or stiched up by the media, for whom I have no regard

monkeyman,

well, yes, any media/press, anywhere, IMO, is willing to put a spin on anything that they believe would increase their circulation and could get through with... :D

So, I can not really know whether this had actually happened or not. Hope it had not. :D

The Big Yin is a great comic and has a tremondous feel for stories. I suspect that as Monkeyman says comments he made on the handling of the situation by the media were deliberately taken out of context by the self same media for their own self interests. Not that the British press would ever do such a thing! :nod :nod :nod . :beer :beer :beer
