I'm trying to wrangle a room for 12 nights at the Marriott but I'm seeing $114 a night as the best rate.

It looks like PRICELINE isn't covering Pattaya anymor and I've tried orbitz, expedia and a direct call to the hote (to a Thai who wouldn't negotiate !).

Has anyone found a good internet booking site for Pattaya or managed to get a deal at the Marriott. I'm trying for $90 a night and they can keep their fancy breakfast but the pool, gym and location are fantastic.

How about a travel agent ? I did find one web site that dropped it to $99 but I'd never heard of them.

What was the website that had a room for $90 per night? Are you sure that there wasn't service and taxes added on after that?

I finally gave up and got five nights for about $104 per night total cost.

It is somewhat remarkable how the Pattaya Marriott can keep their prices so high, without offerring any special deals that I am aware of. I have never visited this property, but Aardvark must be correct, that the pool and fitness center must be special. Although I think I read one comment somewhere that the fitness center was not all that great. Royal Garden Center has an upscale gym if I am not mistaken. Afterall, the RG has a pretty nice set of pools, but perhaps with not quite the ambiance of the Pattaya Marriott.

The $90 a a night rate was from http://reservations.hotelselloffs.comnight and yep when I went further into the booking form they added on extra service charges.

When I looked at Marriott.com they were offering $90 as a corporate discount.

The Royal Garden Gym is the one you get a pass to from the Marriott.

Ib, please stop reading now.

The Marriott grounds and pool are incredible, the service is great and the loacation attached to the Royal Garden is convenient but not worth paying $70 a night more than the Residence Garden.

I like the RG but I was spoiled by a lot of business travel at Marriotts a few years ago. I'll be blowing the last of my Marriott points on three nights at the JW Marriott in BKK.

I am a great fan of Marriott's and in particular the Royal Garden conversions in Bangkok and Pattaya, largely because of their pool and poolside area.

Their rates are not cheap I'll credit you but they are top notch. The poolside ambiance at the one in Pattaya defies belief when you consider it is between Beach road and 2nd road. To gain maximum benefit though, you have to be prepared to use the facilities such as the pool and if you want a beer, a Heineken is Bt150++ which equals Bt177.

Occasionally, there can be some reasonable rates at Don Muang for the Marriott.

Rates for November are USD 99+ without breakfast or USD 114++ inclusive. A little higher in December and back to November rates in January.

http://www.sawadee.com/pattaya/pttymarriott/ has rates in December (not Xmas) for USD 100 all in, including breakfast.

Also, no corporate codes seem to work with the Pattaya hotel. Perhaps they only work with business Marriotts.

IU agree with Bass GOd, why would you want to spend that much for a room every night?

Here are a good hotels for half that price that are just as good. To spend so much $$ on a hotel you are in for maybe 8 hours a day is just taking away from the rest of your trip fun times.

I know there are some on here who go on vaction to have a nice relaxing time. It just seems to me that the etra money could be better spent.

I can't think of any hotel just as good for half the price in the same location. And who says that people staying there are using their money for hotels and cannot afford to party like its the end of the world ? YMMV.

I've got regular customers who stay in the Royal Cliff and a couple who could likely buy Pattaya.

I haven't seen anything nearly as good in the area $99 is a heck of a price for a resort like it but the price spread between that an a decent hotel in Pattaya is too wide. I really found having the RG with it's food, banks, atm machines, gym and intenet cafe and exits to 2nd rd and beach road from the hotel really comfortable because I'm in and out of the room constantly: soapies, trips to the gym,

It's just not worth an extra $65 a days. I don't worry about a budget on vacation but the price is just to far out of line for the differences. At $85 I'd stay at the Marriott.

The pool and gardens are incredible at night. Street noise ? Not a sound.

I guess we better stay off the topic of what I pay the girls or my flying Business Class. That really upsets some people.

I always use this website, I try others but they are never beaten.

http://www.hoteltravel.com/thailand/pattaya/royal_garden.htm

I checked out the link that you referenced, and the rates are pretty good, but it would be nice to be able to drop the included American Breakfast. I probably would not be up in time for it anyway.

Did you actually book the Pattaya Marriott for your stay through this site, and I assume you gave your credit card info over the internet. I am just a little leary of doing this.

I ended up ooking directly thru the otel for $92 a night, they drop the rate if you're there for 15 days or more. The listing on the site above is for $126 a night in November. Mine doesn't include breakfast and they said that's 500B per person. I won't be likely to be up for breakfast either.

What SoCalGuy said is true - After they got the Marriott name, all special deals are gone.

On the other side, Dusit do the same, no heavy (I mean heavy) discounts during slow season. Hey, even the pride of Pattaya, Royal Cliff, are throwing away rooms at 2300B every now and then.

Never take hoteltravel.com deals as cheap. They are more or less a joke when it comes to discounts.

A quick look at old favourites like hotelthailand.com could save you money... http://www.hotelthailand.com/pattaya/royalgarpatt/index.html

Hoteltravel do their rates in USD and unless Howard Stern wins the election... pick a site with Thai Baht...

I couldn't find a date for your stay. But if say Jan 16, when the Marriott low season starts, and Garden View, all with taxes and the breakfast you will miss every day...

Hoteltravel... USD 126

Hotelthailand.com... 4,700B http://www.hotelthailand.com/pattaya/royalgarpatt/index.html

Thaihoteldiscount.com... 4300B http://www.pattaya.thaihoteldiscount.com/marriott.html

I basically only use the two above these days. Thaihoteldiscount is always cheapest IF (and IF) they have the hotel you are after.

It's a Chiang Mai company and they run a funny system. You pay the first night by card through a safe bank site, then they contact you after check-in with the choice of paying cash or card (+ 3% by card).

In Pattaya, Koh Chang Travel in Soi Post Office do the business for them and it's where to go if you choose to pay cash.

On the other side... I have managed to get the same rates in other Soi Post Office travel agencys BUT never never on the net.

You could get friendly with an agency so they know you. Then when you know your dates, call them. But they will probably want some kind of

pre-payment for the first night so it's time to get a sesond card.

Hotelthailand is still good if thaihoteldiscount can't offer them. Asiatravel and Planetholiday are more or less jokes these days.

To the other discussion - Why Marriott... After a few Marriott's I moved over to Dusit and will never move back - try it!.

You've got to realise as well that on some of the prepaid bookings, you don't get either the reward points or the tier points for the particular hotel. This may or may not be important but a lengthy stay would upgrade you and likely give you enough points for a weekend away somewhere free.
