Credit card deposit......

Recommended Posts

I have stayed at the Dynasty Inn BKK for 10 straight trips for my first night in town (some in June, some in November). In the past, I never sent a deposit prior to arrival and had no problems.

This trip my email reservation was replied to with a request for a credit card #. I have seen threads regarding abuse of CC #s, so I am hesitant to send one, however I do arrive on a Saturday night and high season is approaching (although I have been here at the same time on 4 other trips with no problems).

So do I send a CC # or do I keep my reservation (which has been re-confirmed), and cross my fingers that the DI will have my room as always. Inquiring minds want to know.

Agree with Bassgod 100%.

Have never brought a CC with me and never will. Bring your email with you and also reply saying you are paying cash.

I have always paid cash and have stated in all emails to the hotels that i wont give a CC number though Email. Nevr had a problem when i showed up at the front desk :beer

Dog out.

I had a similar situation in Sept 2004 and I chose to stay at the Nana Hotel instead of the Dynasty. There record with CC# is tainted and I didn't want to go through the cloning process again.....

i made reservations at DI-bkk for my 1st night and 2 nights at DI-soi13 for 15-17oct.

was asked for CC because of late arrival 2300hrs. told them i would fax them the info but did't. got there friday night and they did not hold my res., although they did call and get me a room down the street at the nana city inn, but it was a dump.

i did get the van ride dowm to pattaya that morning to DI-soi13. if your checking in before 1800hrs you sould be alright without CCdepsit.

any way who cares, you'll be in LOS "up to you"

have a great time

I have stayed at the Bangkok Dynasty the last 10 to 12 trips and have used my credit card as a deposit. I have never (knock on wood) had any problems or trouble using a credit card there. When I check in they will run my credit card and hold it until I check out. Sometimes I will put the room charge on the credit card when I check out or pay cash and they will tear up the credit card receipt.

The first time I made reservations from the US by email they sent back a reply with a form to print out to fax to them with credit card information for a hold reservation on the room. They don't charge your credit and only will do so for a one night charge if you fail to show up or don't cancel your reservation 48 hours in advance. I had to cancel one time and gave them plenty of notice and there wasn't a charge against my credit card.

I now make my next trip or two reservations while I'm checking out to leave. Again they will run my credit card and use it to hold my reservation. I use a credit card in Thailand for hotels that I can check on line to see if any activity had been posted. Like I said, I never had a credit card 'cloned' in Thailand and have used at several hotels like the Sandy Spring and both Flippers.

Don't Do it - They will tie up your cash flow for the requested "Deposit" with your credit card company. Yes do tell them that you are a "Cash Account" If the Hotel wants to play hard ball, make a second reservation with another Hotel.

Just don't forget to cancel your first reservation.

If everybody showed up as booked, there would be no need for hotels to a charge deposit.

I just booked 1 night at the Majestic suites in Bangkok for 29/11 staying 1 night before i fly home. I got the standard reply asking for my credit card info, to which i replied telling them i don't e-mail my credit card details to anyone and i'll make alternative arrangements if required.

Just received confirmation today that my booking will be held for me. :D

Whaat I usually do is book the first night or two in Bangkok through Priceline Hong Hong. I get the JW Marriott or one of the other 5 star Sukhumvit hotels for around $65 US. I know that's a lot, but it's nice to take a day or so to unwind from the flight at a nice place. I used my credit card when paying in advance for those rooms, but after that it's strictly cash. I pay as I go. If I'm at a hotel and know I'll be staying for a week or so, I just go to the desk and pay in advance. Every so often I'll check to see if I owe them any money for the mini bar or whatever.

OK..... I rolled the dice ...and lost. The DI gave my room away (so much for staying there in the future)

Luckily the Nana had a deluxe room for 1391 B. (I wasn't looking for the best price at this point). Actually the Nana staff helped me out of a tight spot with a TG and the police, for which I will be thankful... (I'll do the details in a later trip report) I'll be staying there from now on.

BTW - most of the popular hotels here in pattaya seem busy (although not booked up). Looks like high season is rolling around...

Got to go.... time to party..

I had the Dynasty ask for a CC# and instead I also went to the Nana Hotel {Deluxe Room}, which I thought was great for the 1500 Baht price...

Did you like that room also, Zeus...?

Have also stayed a t the Dynasty many times and have never had a problem with my credit card to hold the reservation. The credit card deposit is only required if arriving late. I don't really blame hotels for asking for a CC deposit. Many people make reservations at 2 or even 3 hotels for some reason then forget to cancel or don't give a shit and hotels end up with a lot of no shows. There are , of course many hotels that don't require a credit card in which you can stay. Personally, the thought and the peace of mind to know my room will be held in case of an aircraft delay or whatever and will be ready regardless of what time I arrive far outweighs the small risk of CC abuse for which you will not be responsible anyway.

So true.

It could be interesting to know:

how many members have actually ended up paying for the abuse of their credit card???

No hearsay or 3rd persons story please.

But looking forward to hear from genuine members who ended up paying for abuse of their card.

One solution is to use a CC that you know you will never use abroad and call the credit card and say that you wish to bar any charges from outside your home country withthe exception of a one-time charge to Dynasty (or whatever hotel). You might not even have to authorize the one-time charge because I think they just keep the number, not put a pending charge on it. In this case you could probably just give them a fake one...
