Hello, Total Newbie here. I'm going to thailand for the first time from the US. I want to bring In a digital camera and a Camcorder or video camera. Would this be a prob. at the BKK Airport, cause heard something about not bringing In more than 10,000Thb worth or something like that, which my shoes cost that, LoL J/k, I mean I'm confused with what I can bring and not. Right On :banghead

been going to Thailand for 32 years - Never been stopped and checked in Thailand. iI think you are thinking of $10,000 being the max - definitely not 10,000 Baht

Yeah It was 10,000Thb max amount to bring In or something. Also, has anyone been there middle of Feb.- middle of Mar.? How's the weather at that time and of course the nightlife?. Yep, Raider Fan all the way, Go Raiders. I like soccer to. :chogdee2

That restriction of 10,000 baht does not apply to tourists from other countries, it is for returning Thai residents following an overseas trip.

We have the same tariff imposed upon us here in the UK if returning from a trip outside one of the EU member states (£160.00)

I walked through Customs yesterday with my laptop, one film SLR camera and 35-70mm zoom lens and my digital SLR (a Nikon D70) and associated 18-70mm lens. No problems at all though I didn't stop around long enough to ask :P

When I came out in June, I had more photographic equipment as well as my laptop.

Now just got to wait 2 months or so for aa load of books, CD's and photo albums to arrive from the UK. Not sure where they're going to go when they get here though. :cry1

Im yet another total newbie whose learning a lot from watching these forums.

May I ask if March is so hot when would be a recommended time to visit for a newbie, ie the cooler months but still a good scene?

no such thing as cooler months...it is always hot...dont worry about it...just come...anytime...day or night...hot, hotter or hottest...it doesnt matter...the beer is always cold and the women are always great....plus...if you come during the "cool" season....read that as only 90 degrees Farenheit instead of 100 degrees.....you will pay more for hotel...there will be more competition....prices everywhere will be higher....pack a bag....get a ticket and head on over

Thanx guy's for all your Info, It's great. I prefer to be there In Nov.-Jan., when It's probably the coolest months, but cannot miss the football season and playoffs, especially the Super Bowl Feb.5. I doubt any American Football on TV In Pattaya. So I plan to come out on Feb. 8 for a month, maybe even longer. Plan on staying In BKK for the first couple day's at the Infamous Nana Hotel then on down to Pattaya. How long does It usually take to get to Nana from the Airport by Taxi, anyone know?. Oh man after a 25 hr flight I'll be so tired. Has anyone flown from LAX?, How do you cope with flying, no smoking, and really can't get drunk on a plane to cope. Also, If anyone Is down there during my time and want to show a Newbie all about this playland, drinks on me, just please no trying to hook me up with some ladyboy, for a laugh, LoL. Heard that's the Initiation for you vet's out there. Thanx for all your help guy's.

Hard to say about the time from the airport to Nana as it all depends on the traffic, anything from 30 minutes to an hour +. As for the flight, two words - sleeping tablets. Its the only way I can manage long plane journeys without cigarettes and also means you'll be raring to go when you touch down and won't be wasting valuable LOS time on non-essentials like sleep :banana

That's right, they've totally gotten rid of the customs form. Only need to fill out the arrival/departure card now.

:chogdee2

hell it's great getting a party together on tuesday mornings to watch monday night football!!!

they show the games, they do have satalitee tv :D

as far as electronics, don't know if you've ever lived or traveled out of US so be aware the OHMs and voltage are diffrent not only for your stuff, but on anything that you might concider buying in LOS,

carrying $10,000 USD cash would just be stupid, even if you were going to Salt Lake city. that's why they have ATM's every 10metres.

all major sporting events are shown, just that if you want to watch US stuff it's 13hr difrrence or UK stuff 6hrs, the replays go on for days!!

Do they really show American Football there? Awsome, maybe reconsider when to go exactly. Also, no way I was planning to bring 10,000usd In, I'll just use the ATM's. Was asking about hearing something about 10,000Thb worth to bring In Thailand, meaning valubles such as Computers, video cameras, Cameras and luggage all equalling 10,000Thb. For me that would be Impossible since I want to capture alot of Thailand and of course the night life, just don't know how people get there nuddy Pix. out of LOS, LoL. I guess they really don't check huh.

Oh man after a 25 hr flight I'll be so tired.

No, you won't. First trip, eh? Bangkok is electric. You'll be so wired you won't even think about sleep.

How do you cope with flying, no smoking, and really can't get drunk on a plane to cope.

BRING EARPLUGS. The drone of the aircraft exhausts you physically. They help immensely.

Buy a travelers pillow(that horseshoe shaped thing that goes around your neck).

Two days before your flight try to adjust your sleep time to coincide with the time you'll want to sleep on the plane.

Bring a book to read in order to make you sleepy.

Watch all the movies you can while you're awake. It makes the time go by quicker.

Get up and walk around the galley every couple of hours when the stews aren't busy with food or drink service.

Buy some nicotine gum at the pharmacy to avoid a "nic fit" on the plane. Get enough for the return trip. If you go through Taipei, they have smoking areas inside the airport. But, at 25 hours, you're probably flying through somewhere else. EVA airlines LAX-Taipei=14hrs, 2-3hr layover in TPE, TPE-BKK=4hrs. Evergreen Deluxe Class/Elite Class(highly recommended) on EVA is running around $1000 incl. tax&fees for Feb. 06' and has flights that get into BKK around noon. Food for thought.

Don't drink alcohol on the plane. It'll dehydrate you even more and you'll feel like crap. It'll also make you want a cigarette. Drink lots of water.

Unless it has changed recently, at LAX, you have to get the bags you're checking scanned before you go to the ticket counter. The security lines can be VERY long. Plan accordingly.

I may be in BKK and then on to Pattaya and back to BKK in Jan. and/or Feb. Maybe we can grab a beer.

I don't consider myself a "vet" yet so I don't know if I can help you with that initiation you want with a ladyboy. Wait, did I read that correctly? :chogdee2
