Read a bit of it today at work,i think im right in saying there are a load of people(scum of the earth i call them) claiming benefit from the uk government and living over in Thailand/Pattaya. I guess they are claiming the basic income support, incapacity beneifit etc.

I hate people like that, living off the tax that hardworking people like me and you(maybe you!!) pay to the government.

They make me sick!!

I've heard the bit about pensions, where some people are living in LOS but pretending to live in Britain so they can get the inflation rises on their pensions when they should be frozen if they leave the country.

Good luck to 'em. If you've paid into the system for a pension same as the rest, why should you get less out just because you decide to leave the shithole you're in to go and live somewhere better?

End of rant.

Thank you. :P

For what it's worth Monkeyman, I couldn,t agree more. Someone no doubt will criticise me as a whining TW*T for complaining about the UK, and also some foreigner will jump in and try and put the boot in if they perceive they have an advantage. However I am British and I'm speaking to other Brits in my post, and so I believe I have a right too, proud as I normally am of the UK, why shouldn't everyone who has paid their full contributions get what is entitled to them :P

On my last trip, met a bloke on the beach. He was bragging, that he got invalidity benefit for an injured hand, housing benefit and the old Rock and Roll too. He had just bought 6 shirts from a vendor, was covered in gold jewelrey, so was his pregnant Thai GF. Boasted about his criminal activities, then walked off towards the Dogs Bollocks Bar.

Well, at least he was English I suppose. :P

Totally agree with Monkeyman. I started work on my 15th birthday, four days later I was in the RN. Stayed for 30 years and then ran my own consultancy business for 10 years. That was stuffed by this labour government who thought I would pay over half my income (40% income tax & 10.2 employers NI) plus all the other taxes for the glory of socialism! I ditched the work and live quite happily on my naval pension, taxed at 21% and pay not a penny in National Insurance.

I have never claimed a penny in my life and now I am ineligible for any benefit whatsoever because they are all means tested! Compare that with the hate filled muslim clerics who have claimed over £250,000 never having done a days work! The British Government is the biggest insurance fraudster on the planet! What a pathetic nation we have become.

I have no time for those who never put in and only ever take out but certainly if I lived in LOS I would ensure that I had a UK address as my residence so that my state pension is not frozen - this assumes of course that it also is not means tested by the time I reach 65!

Hi

They are thinking of putting it up to 70, the age apparently 20% of men are dead, and therefore unable to claim anything ! No money for pensions but plenty of money for politicians pensions even if they are in power for 5 minutes. Also plenty for people who arrived yesterday. English people are mugs to put up with it. :moon

Yep, I left school at 15. Worked for 41 years.

I too, would rather get by on my Company Pension. I will not pay a penny more

N.I.

Before I retired, I attended a seminar for advise among other things, on what to expect from the government at 65. We were told that to qualify for a full pension, we needed to have paid NI contributions from age 16- 55. There is a 3 year holiday allowed in that time. My payments age 15-16 don't count.

Now, we are told there is a pension crisis and don't take your state pension for granted.

When I think of all the taxes I have paid since 1962, for Income, N.I. V.A.T. Road tax, petrol, beer, now Airport. I ask. WHERE THE FUCK HAS IT ALL GONE ? :moon

I seem to see plenty of people, who have been here well after 1962 getting pension payments at the P.Office. Maybe, that answers my question. They might as well go to my bank and take a few quid out of my account- it's the same thing. B)

Anyone, who has been P.A.Y.E. all their life, like me, were just like money cows. there to be milked. :D

Nidnoyham,

I started work 4 Jan 62, my 15th birthday, delivering orders for the Co-0p on a black bike with a big basket on the front - LOL - looks like we are about the same age!

You will get 5 years NI credit if you are not working from 60 to 65. I will be a few years short and my pension will be reduced by the princely sum of about £2 a week (taxable of course). Bloody pathetic.

Worthwhile getting a pension forecast from Newcastle to see where you stand.

Fortunately we (increasingly oldies) will get something of a state pension but I am sad for our children and their children who will likely get the square root of fck all!

If I had worked 20+ years and had a pension due me I would expect to be able to collect it where ever I was living when I retired

Larry,

It's not so much as getting your pension paid if you live in Thailand. It's rather that the UK Government are saying thank you very much for saving us money by living abroad and then tell us that the amount of pension they pay will never increase unless we return to the UK (or the EU and a few other select countries) to live. I saw some figures a while back and seem to recall that the actual cost of paying all those ex-pat pensioners the annual increase would be minimal compared to the total overall cost. :moon B) :D

Firstly, I've calmed down since posting lastnight, err sorry if I offended anyone, (no need for it), anyway with reference to Bongobill, it is true that contributions from age 60-65 are given free of charge so to speak, unless you are moving abroad before the age of 60, I was told this by Newcastle when I asked for my forecast last week, blo*dy typical <laugh oh I'm off again :chogdee2

Yes I bought the Express 14/11/05 specially as I dont normally read it.

I think the point about the index increases to the basic state pension is a very minor one. The pension will increase by less than £2 per week, so keeping quiet about living in Thailand seems to me to be a very minor crime.

I'm 62 and am getting the winter fuel allowance of £200, and am amused to reflect that this will buy me about 12 nights with LBFM's - talk about winter warm-ups !.

I've paid my taxes for well over 40 years and am drawing an occupational pension which I worked long and hard for.

The people who do not have to worry about a pension are the M.P.' s who have voted themselves a fanastic deal not available to us mere mortals who have to finance it. I read that one MP had claimed a mileage allowance based on a distance of twice round the world. They employ their wifes as secretaries, who do very little, and get all sorts of allowances for housing etc.

No good luck to the guy who has worked all his life, paid his taxes and now wants to live happily in LOS towards the end of his life.

Nah, he was about 45, big fat git, hands like a bunch of bananas. Into ringing stolen cars, Duty free booze and fag runs over the Channel etc.

The bloke you described, could be me. ( minus the tatoos) :P

Bill,

How dare you ! I wasn't 15 'till 13 February 1962. Much younger ! :P

I was a Butcher's Boy, same trades bike, small wheel in front, wheiged a ton loaded. 1963 was my first winter in a shop, bloody cold, used to pop into the fridge for a warm. :D

Tell kids that nowadays, they won't believe you ! :D

I believe you. B)

We had no central heating at home in these days and it was not uncommon to have to scrape ice off the INSIDE of the bedroom window in winter. Yet, I don't ever recall complaining about feeling cold!

Some silly old buggers on this board :D :D

The day I started work a recruiting Chief from the Navy came and asked if I wanted to go into the Navy early as someone had gone sick. Gave my notice in and was in HMS Ganges four days later. Boss was not best pleased!

Dave,

Didn' realize that about the contributions if you're living abroad from 60 onwards. Another reason to keep a base in the UK.

Alan,

Spot on there mate. Remember exactly the same!

So Bill,

It wasn't the rum that tempted you, it must have been the Bum and Backy ! :D :clueless

Us Old Sods, are not as silly as the world would have you think. :D

Anyway, I'm still 17 in my head. It's when I start putting dates to the places and things I have done, that reminds me, that I am getting on a bit. :D

Now I keep repeating the words to that song " Don't stop thinking about tommorow, don't keep thinking about today, yesterday's gone, yeh, yesterday's gone " Or words to that effect. Fleetwod Mac- that's the Group ! From around you're way ?

.....Fleetwod Mac- that's the Group ! From around you're way ?

Forget the bum!!!! and the rum, although I did get a tot for three years before it was abolished. The guy who abolished it, Admiral 'Ginger' LeFanu, promptly got leukemia and died. Sailors might read something into that!! As for the baccy, it was nice getting duty free cigs (even when on a shore base) but couldn't afford it so gave up years ago - yes, all the wrong reasons to give up but.....

Joined the Gravy because I had been to sea fishing with my old man and that seemed too much like hard work! So it was a case of get out of Fleetwood or work at the ICI plant making plastic pipes!!! Now of course the fishing is gone along with the ICI plant. Suppose I could get a job making 'Fishermens Friends'...... nah, think I'll stay retired!!! :D :D
