hello all, i'll be going to bkk from pattaya on jan 17 & looking to stay somewhere near soi cowboy. Theres the Swiss Grottino off soi 17 but i'd prefer to stay in a four/five star hotel. The Majestic Grande seems to fit my budget but it is further away. Any advice anyone...?

The Majestic Grand to Soi Cowboy is at least a mile long walk.

The Swiss Grottino is closer to Soi Cowboy, and the rooms are more than adequate, but it is not 4 Star material.

If you want high quality and a place that is about 1/2 between Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, try The President Solitaire at the end of Soi 11. I think it is a "perfect location" (very subjective choice) but many think it is a bit off the beaten path. However, if you know the area, or your taxicab driver knows the area (that is, the back streets), it is a 35-40 Baht cab fare to either Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy. I prefer to walk, but most Thai girls do NOT.

:D

Don't believe the rack rate. They have a few "packages." Use to be a great deal, I thought the best "bang for the buck" in a hotel I had ever seen, BUT in the last 14-16 months they have almost double their rates.

i will be paying 7600baht for 2 nights stay (solitaire premier package) inc breakfast, all taxes, round trip airport transfer (which i won't need). it is a bit more pricier than the majestic grande but you do get a bigger room & extra inroom amenities than the grande...

The Majestic Grande is almost right at Nana Entertainment Plaza and is girl friendly.

Nana area is every bit a s good or better than Soi Cowboy but it's a matter of choice. If you want one close to Cowboy try the Westin or Sheraton which are both about a block away.

Stay at the majestic grande walk up to sukhumvit (you can walk by Nana first if you want by walking thru the Raja Hotel car park? ) walk up on to the platform of Nana Skytrain pay your ten babt from the machine, wait for a train (every five minutes) heading towards On Nut, walk on to the train ,get off the very next stop; Asok station walk down the stairs to your left heading south cross the street and your there .

In short it wouldnt take you long nor will the walk be a mile.

I'm at the Majestic Grande right now and am very pleased with the hotel. In between hunting sessions, you can relax in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room (broken right now though). As far as I'm aware, the Grottino is nice but doesn't have those kind of amenities. I'm not sure if that's a factor for you or not.

Stayed at both.

Solitaires locaTION sucks.

Solitaire big tv is the only plus.

Majestics room is like being in 5 star but paying 3 star price.

I've decided that hotel selection is as personal and subjective a choice

as what each person sees as "beautiful."

With that in mind I think Soi 11 is a perfect location, unless, of course, you like being in the middle of the noise and action and close to NEP and the Nana Hotel parking lot. It is all a matter of personal preference.

I stayed in Swiss Grottino and loved the room, but the building sucks.

Have you tried the Town Lodge on Soi 18 - another designer hotel and looks very good if you dont mind the location
