Any recent Info/Opinion of Roof Garden Inn?

Recommended Posts

The hotel reviews are very long in the tooth and the most recent post in this forum is from a guy extolling its virtues BEFORE going there. They say they now have in room broadband and it seems to be in the sticks similarly to RG at 1/2 the price ( or the suite for the same). Minus a pool which is a drawback, are there any other reasons not to try it?

The only drawback is the location. The hotel is good value. It is further away from the main Pattaya action than the Resid. Gard. but on the same road.

Baht buses pass the front door constantly but if you are like me and in and out of your hotel all day long then it becomes a bind travellin in the buses 3/4 times a day.

I stayed there a year ago. The owner is very nice, and the rooms are clean and good size.

Like everybody says, it is a little out of the action, and after a few days, I moved to town.

Good value, except for the location.

I stayed there a couple of times in the last two years once for a month

The owner is a real gentleman very knowlegable scots gent other staff very good although only day lady at reception has good english

the rooms are very clean big and excellent value.

they are a little out of the way but if you can manage to get the baht bus ride down into town or out to jomtien then you will be ok...by the way if you think you can't use this taxi then dont bother going anywhere in thailand other than a hotel on soi 7 and the pig and whistle cause you are well and truely stuck...

seriously though Roof Garden good rooms, good management and no rip offs I used the laptop in the room most days and the cost of room calls was very small and the prices in the mini bar are a joke really cheap

ps the laundry service was excellent too..

oh yea and the showeer is big enough for a fat irish bloke and at least three thai ladies I think (was drunk that night)

Looks like a good hotel and a BIG PLUS is the rooms have a digital safe, which for me is crucial. I don't trust the staff at reception.

1. Is breakfast included?

2. Does one choose your own code for the safes?

3. Is the hotel 'lady' friendly?

Thanks

"Yes lady friendly "

ONE GUEST friendly. Second guest is charged around 200-300 baht now.

Never charged me in '03 but started charging on my last two trips there in '04.

I'd stayed there for 4+ months in those two years. I inquired very tactfully of Arnold via e-mail if there was a chance of waiving that charge prior to my first trip in '05 and got a snotty response stated that many of the finer hotels in the area charged for the first guest. I reminded him that he wasn't the Siam Bayshore and cancelled my reservation. His loss. I guess he doesn't need good recommendations or repeat business anymore.

I also had an issue with them letting a lady into my room without me or my permission once. That guest had been with me for over a week, but it made things a little tense when I came home later with another and the first guest was sleeping in my bed!
