sitting on a load of FF miles and finally decided to make a reservation. IMPOSSIBLE! Does anyone have a tip/advice on the best way to book a Delta or codeshare r/t from east coast? My dates are flexible, but I just can't find ANY dates when they offer the skysaver ticket.

Try and book 11 months in advance as this is the earliest you can book. Should be availability. If you can't book to BKK try SIN out BKK back to US. Cheap flights to BKK from SIN.

:finger i know how you feel. i went thru this with united when they were in trouble. the only way i could use miles on short notice was to the west coast. then it was code share the rest of the way. now i try that way all the time it is better to get to bkk at 11.00 am as compared to 11:00 pm. i suggest you call them and not try on line. ask them for late take off on the west cost code share. most asian airlines have late take off times that are not usally full. good luck . 6 weeks and counting. :allright

If you haven't already tried, make the reservation by phone as the agent will have access to all of the airline's partners. I've never had a problem with United by doing this and doing it 2 to 3 months in advance.

If you're flexible on dates. call the Airline's toll free number that deals with rewards travel, tell them what you want, and have them call you back. you'll drive yourself crazy trying to do it online.

Excellent Advice! I called the international Partners Awards desk (a separate number) and spoke to a very knowledgeable and friendly agent. She put me on hold for 5 minutes and "FOUND" an award travel ticket available- can you believe it- in PEAK season! Now I'm coming back in late Dec/Jan and this time for free!! Thanks for the input. :P

The way things are going at Delta right now you just better hope they are still in business in December.

I hope they are still in business in May and at least not on strike.

Don't forget you can use their FF miles to book award flights on other Skyteam airlines. You might want to consider Northwest or even Korean if you can get to one of their US ports.

Yes, I used KAL. 22 hours going over (not bad at all), but 37 hours return. But that's all they had and I really wanted to rid myself of the Delta FF miles just in case. Thanks for the help. Flying N/S Thai June 28!!

With Delta's FF program, you have the option of flying NWA, KA, China Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, and Singapore Airlines to BKK, although the first two airlines(Skyteam), you can redeem an economy ticket for 60,000 miles, and the others require 70,000 miles.

I used Delta miles (60K) to book a flight to BKK last trip to Thailand. I got a flight on NorthWest which is one of their International carriers. I was able to reserve a seat for 14 days and then make changes to the reservation dates. The key is too reservse the best dates you can get. Then call back daily to have them check for better dates. When you get what you want, book it. Once you book to make a change will cost you $50.00. The reservationists are pretty patient but beware, some of the customer service agents will really go out of their way for you and others don't care. You may need to call back in an hour or two and check again. You'd be suprised, I called back the same day and got a seat on a day they earlier told me was fully booked.

I have flown alot mainly for work and the flight on NorthWest was one of the best. The service was good, the flight attendants were very polite. They served breakfast, dinner and breakfast again. No charge for drinks which was a first for me. I would recomend this carrier to anyone. The only complaint is that in coach the seats are small and close together. I'm a big guy and I was abit cramped. Other than that, all good.

The NWA site is only bringing back award availability at a cost of 120K miles! :llaugh

Malaysian Airlines is no longer a Delta Skymiles partner, so there is one less airline in the program to redeem miles to get to BKK. Northwest, Korean, China Airlines, and Singapore Airlines are the remaining options now to get to BKK from the states redeeming Skymiles, although I heard rumors Singapore Airlines may also be dropping out of the Skymiles program in the future. They are also in the United Airlines Star Alliance Mileage Plus FF program.

Malaysia Airlines charges hefty taxes and fees (around $150), even on award tickets. NWA only charges around $50 from USA-BKK.

Note: I am an NWA freak.

I use Delta Skymiles for every trip to LOS, but I book many months in advance to get the best flights. If I wait too late, I can still find flights but the times and layovers can really suck.

I fly Delta out of Tampa, Florida to Atlanta where I pick up KAL to Seoul then on to BKK. The return is the exact opposite.

Skymiles are great if you know how to work them. If you book far in advance and/or have flexible times/dates it's a great advantage plus at only 60,000 miles to LOS it's lower than most.
