Direct flight U.K. to Phuket

Recommended Posts

I have been reading in other sections on this board a discussion about the relative merits of Phuket v Pattaya. I would have thought that an obvious plus for Pattaya is that one is able to take a direct flight from the U.K. to BKK airport and thereafter simply take a taxi ride to Funtown.

Perhaps someone who has sampled Phuket (I have not) could advise whether it is possible to take a direct flight from the U.K. to Phuket. Or is it necessary to fly to BKK and then take an internal flight to Phuket?

Thanks

I think so. I once talked to some guy in Phuket that had flown there from Europe for the week while he was having his kitchen remodeled. Phuket has an international airport and its own customs, so there's no reason why you couldn't fly directly there. Just check with a travel agent. There must be weekly charters during high season.

Hi,

I was talking to a Swedish guy after the tsunami and he was flying home directly so there must be a service from Sweden. Phuket is an International Airport but I think flights are mainly from othet Asian Airports. When Phuket Air were flying from England they used Bangkok.

As far as I am aware, there are no direct flights from UK to Phuket. When we book customers through to Phuket we normally connect through Bangkok. Thai Airways will check your baggage straight through and you can clear customs at Phuket. I have also managed this with Eva connecting with Thai but that can be random.

Other options include flying with one of the European carriers that goes direct to Phuket - SAS and Finnair are a couple I know of but I am sure there are more. You could also consider flying through Singapore with Singapore Airlines or via Hong Kong with Cathay.

Stand by for a response from Cheshire Tom who will pick up this thread I am sure! He is a mine of good information about flight options.

If you are booking your flight, you can't go wrong with West East Travel www.westeasttravel.co.uk. Thai Airways are currently offering Phuket as an add-on for £40. You can see this on the West East web site.

You mean mytravel from Gatwick and Manchester. :chogdee2

They are direct(ish) if you discard the refuelling stop in the middle east (Bahrain?). However, given their prices I can't see many folk joining the queue to fly with them ........ based on two people flying ............

ADULT BASIC PRICE£1068.00

FUEL CHARGE LH£110.00

APD (NON-EU)£40.00

ACCOM SUPP£0.00

FUEL CHARGE LH£0.00

EXCLUSIVE ONLINE DISCOUNT£-20.00

Your quote £1194 or UKP 597 per person on a charter aircraft (max 30 inch seat pitch).............. and then you have got to fork out 15 quid for a meal; and as for drinks ............. :clap2 :clap2

Personally, if I was only travelling to Phuket I'd avoid BKK altogether and go via SIN or KL or get an open-jaw ticket with either Qatar or Emirates and fly into SIN or KL and back from BKK and use one of the low cost carriers to get to/from Phuket.

You can fly direct (with ful stops) with a few of the "package" suppliers. As far as I am aware there are no direct schedule airlines.

It is worth looking at the holiday package deals as although a previous poster points out they are expensive they usually include the hotel.

The mytravel prices quoted are flight only. Book a package and the price becomes really silly. :clueless
