Need Reputable tailor

Recommended Posts

I am arriving in a couple of weeks with just a carry-on. I figure one of the first things I need are several pairs of trousers. Shirts I can buy off the rack but 38 or 40 trousers seem to be few and far between. Who is a good, reliable, and easy to find tailor?

Majectic tailor in bkk are very good. They own both the majectic suites and the Majectic grande hotels in bkk. Majectic tailors are in the same building as the majestic hotel on sukumvit next to nana plaza. They have great quality and service. All my clothes are made by them. Father and 3 sons.

Personally I like the father the best but the oldest son has very good taste. I used to work in san francisco witha bunch of gays that always dressed to the nines. After coming back home with new suites on fromt the shop the gays would alwasy give me a razz "when did you get good taste?? that sort of thing. :clap1

I would tend to agree with the sweat shops statement. I have yet to meet an indian tailor who actually makes anything, they send the measurement and the material to somewhere in the back of Pattaya Tai where there are rows and rows of seamstresses 24 hrs a day.

My wife told me that "Burda" Tailors was different (they are opposite Friendship Supermarket) she syas they do there own. All else I know is that they are Chinese Thais.

although the tailors at majectic do not do much of the work it is all done on premises. i have watched as their thai employees cut the material. :clap1 2guns

I tried one with the swankiest shop I found - Lancers in Walking Street. Lots of smarmy bullshit & measurement for 2 suits. Turned out an expensive mistake. I think their (chinese/thai) tailor works from a standard pattern with minimal ability to make much adjustments. So the key shapes - around chest etc - turned out ridiculous.

Don't ever jump in with a big order until you've tested to see if the 'standard' cut fits your shape.

I got some trousers from them and they were definitely better than a thai tailor on Suk around soi 5. I think they even used the wool/cashmere cloth I wanted, the thai's substituted acrylic - I can tell from the cigarette burn-holes. About 3000 baht.

Thanks guys. Sounds to me like I may as well get one pair cheap from whoever and see how they look and fit. If OK get more of better material. If I don't like them move on down the street to the next one. Sooner or later bound to get lucky.

I think Burda tailors do their own work. My friend refered me to them a couple of years back and I have gone back twice to have suits and business shirts made. My friend also gets all his short sleave shirts made there because his is a little bit bigger than the average Thai.

For those of you still working in farang-land I can understand the desire for tailored suits and stuff. BUT...I live in Thailand and will not purchase anything that cannot be washed. Will the tailors make washable trousers? How about tailored blue jeans? I'm not joking.

Back in the States I own one suit. Used only for weddings and funerals. Damn! I wonder when I last had it dry cleaned? I remember going to a funeral in August of '02........

It looks like the "sweat shops" at behind Tuk com in South Pattaya. So, just take a walk down there if you want to avoid the indian middle men! I never tried this.

There is a place right across the street from the Nana Hotel in BKK, I think the name of it is New Nana Clothiers or something very close. I have had clothing made there twice and each time it was a very good job.

While in Pattaya a friend and I both had suits made by a taylor who trades under the name of George in a storefront about a block off Walking St. Very poor results for both of us.

In BKK, Gulati Fashions, right on the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Soi 3. The view from the shop is diagonally across the street to the 7/11 and Gas Station in front of the Nana Hotel. Very popular with the diplomatic community in Bangkok.

Jesse and Sam, Father and Son, run the shop.

Jesse's brother (who also goes by the name of Jesse-??) has a shop across Sukhumvit Road, between The Landmark and The Majestic Hotels, and has made suits for several U.S. Presidents.

Jesse and Victor, Father and Son, run the shop.

I eventually used Burda tailors on South Pattaya across from Friendship supermarket. Three pair trousers for 2550 and three short-sleeved shirts for 2400. I'll find out if the material is as good as advertised in a year or so.

I have been using Gulati for three years now and can confirm their quality is exellent. I work as a sales rep so my appearance is very important. I only wear their stuff, shirts as well, and three years on the original suits are looking as good as new.

I paid Bhat 11,000 for a suit with two sets of trousers, which is great value compared to the UK, but I am wondering if by Thai standards I paid too much.

If anyone knows what I should have paid from Gulati's I would appreciate some info as I am due out in six weeks and will be visiting them again.
