Can't speak for Soi Buakou, don't get around there much but yes they are common. Tsutaya chain are in a few places, Big C and Carrefour Malls. There is another chain called ...shit the daft cow has took the card..sorry..will add later.

You have to 'join' and the price is more if you want DVDs.

She is back...where else would you keep the membership card but under the motorcycle seat?....VIDEO EZY...web page is useless.

They don't change their selection too quick...

Why not just spend the extra 70 baht and buy the DVD? I no longer rent, I purchase.

Well apart from the extra 330% cost, and perhaps he doesn't want to carry them back home (where they may not work due to region lock) or throw them away or get arrested for transporting illegal copies. Also I have a 30% throw away from these purchases, poor quality.

Purchase the VCD for 40 baht.

I must be lucky? :finger I have only got 1 bad DVD in the last 2 years. Over 100 purchased. The only ones I ever had problems with are the ones I bought in China. Some didn't workin my DVD player in Thailand. But they work well in my computer DVD player.

As mentioned, original DVDs have an 'regional lock' in them. So the player must match the region code. Some whiz kids manage to strip this out when making copies, but this is beyond my knowledge.

Normally computer DVDs have the region code open...you can change the region selection 5 times, then it locks in. This can be bypassed...and I would love to hear how as my computer will probably lock it's region code soon.

VCDs are far inferior, storing only 1/2 a film, poorer quality and no real features.

Probably depends where you buy the DVDs, if you have a good single source that is the best. I buy from all over, from Pattaya Malls to hawkers in beer bars. The latter is normally where I end up with the crap.

I strictly buy from the "hawkers" and, as said before, never had a major problem. My comuter came from USA, and was used to lay DVD's in the USA for a couple years. Then to China during my 1 year stay there. Again, played all DVD's bought there. It also plays all the DVD's bought in Thailand.

I am not sure that there is a problem with the region of the DVD's, as I have never came across this problem.

Well if it works don't fix it! :finger

I get nervous putting the DVDs in my computer as I know it will lock the region eventually. Some DVDs I bought in Thailand also seem to work fine in my UK machine....all very confusing...no doubt a better head than mine will wake up in the USA soon and explain it! Anyhow, I am a Fucking Poms can't do anything? Everything I touch turns to shite..... :finger

Well, I am a errogant American tyrant.

Why didn't you ever respond to my wind ups?

I agree, electronics is a foreign language to me. All I know how to do is turn them on and off.

Well I did say something!

But I don't like to get into those 'I'm gonna kick yer ass over your shoulders' exchanges. All so 'uncivilised'.

We are a more subtle race over the pond! As Jay Leno once said (an American comedian who actually is funny) 'They have that way of insulting you that leaves you wondering whether or not you have just been insulted.'

You, on the other hand, do not like to leave any doubt..... :D :chogdee2

There is also another place across the street from Carrefour, a few meters closer to 3rd Rd. I think its 30 baqht per rental and if its not a new release you keep it for 3 days. One of the other advantages of renting and then copying besdies being cheaper and being assured that it not defective is that you get the chance to view the movie to see if you want to have a copy.

Well hey, I try to do, what I can do, when I can do it. Do you know what I mean?

I am more of a old school Eddie Murphey, Dice Clay, Sam Kinison type of person myself.

Jay Leno? Yeah I fucked him (per the Dice Man).

Jay Leno? Who the fuck is Jay Leno? Some kind of cock sucker? (Eddie Murphey)

Jay Leno? Hehehehehehehehehehe, yeah I know Jay. He's a cock sucker but other than that he is okay (Sam Kinison).

What I wouldn't give to get some DVD versions of old Eddie Murphey, Dice Clay & Sam Kinison stand up acts!

Great examples.......

Can only be funny by being crude and refering to fucking or sucking.......

A good comedian surely is one who can actually say something funny rather than abusive.......

'You're a true vulgarian aren't you' John Cleese....

When you refer to the region lock after 5 changes are you talking about going to 5 different regions or just going back and forth between say the USA and LOS a few times?

To your knowledge, can the region lock be unlocked as can a sims card?

Thanks in advance.

For my American friends...

Run over to a Best Buy and see if they are still selling a small DVD unit made by CyberHome.

It's cheap...something like $80

Small enough to fit easily into a suitcase.

Is multi Regional.

I take it with me when I go to Pattaya and use it at home when the DVD's don't play in my normal player.

As for comedians... I'll have to give the edge to the Brits. On my last trip to Pattaya, I spent a great afternoon with my lady friend watching Mr. Bean reruns. No words so no language problems...great fun-

I bought one of those CyberHome unit based on Soi 7's recommendation about 2 years ago from Best Buy. Cost was around $35 after rebate. It was not multi region when purchased, however it was a simple process to change as Soi 7 talked me through the steps over the phone.

Hi Emil

I rented from this shop during my last two trips,30 baht for 3 days or 20 baht overnight.Any films i did like i would take to a thai friend who was staying next door to my hotel he would copy them on his pc for me :allright

I usually rent a few movies 2 or 3 nights a week if nothing of interest was showing on the big screen at Big C.

Its a nice way to have a very cheap night,a few films,a few chang and a nice steak cooked in the room by my delightful gf :beer

I am sure you can only change the region code 5 times before the selection locks in. So switching between 2 will eat them up too.

As for getting around the region lock, well I do not know of a way on my notebook, although I have heard of people reprogramming their home DVD players to be multi region.
