Could someone recommend a decent hotel or guest house in Chiang Mai up to 1000 baht per night. It should be within walking distance (10-15 min) of the Night Bazaar as I dislike using Tuk Tuks

The Montri is a little above my budget. I have to keep paying rent in Pattaya whilst away from Pattaya. Thanks anyway.

Try this

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out. Next time we will win the Weltmeisterschaft instead of a credible third place. Any further suggestions about a decent place in Chiang Mai will be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi

I normally stay at the Suriwongse Hotel. You can't beat the location, it's on the corner next to the N Bazaar. It's an oldish hotel, but the rooms are big. The air con is adequate, but just about, but like I say, I stay there for the location.

I was there a month ago, for a week, and paid B1069 a night for a Superior Double, including B/F.

I booked through http://www.thaihoteldiscounts.com/, who I would recommend.

Have fun!

Tapae Place Hotel, nice clean good size rooms, AC, hot & cold water, mini bar etc all you need from a hotel at about 700thb a night; (no in room safe or pool)

Montydog, Your suggestion sounds the best deal. I just rang the hotel on the number you gave me and they quoted me 650 baht per night. I had a look at my Chiang Mai map and the place is perfectly located. I get lots of opportunity to swim in Pattaya so a short while without a pool does not matter.

Thanks to all the other guys as well for their replies.

Cheers :cry1

I agree with Soi 6. Porn Ping is great value. I was there in February. I think it was 1150baht with 2 excellent buffet breakfasts. Probably cheaper now in off season? :beer

A beautiful, quite new boutique hotel that I really like is the Raming Lodge. Great location near the end of Loi Kroh Road by tha Tapae Gate, a very short walk to several of the best beer bars on that street, where lots of ladies hang out. It's guest friendly.

Unfortunately, it seems that they are really jacking up their rates come this November. I used to spend 1000-1200 baht a night to stay there, and now their posted rates from November on are double that. If they had a good swimming pool, I'd consider spending 2000+ a night there, but without a pool, anything beyond 1500 a night is really pushing it.

Now that the Raming Lodge is pushing 2000 baht, I'd prefer the Imperial Mae Ping, or Tamarind Lodge (which are legitimate 4* places) as full service hotels for that kind of rate, or, if those are outside the budget, then the Tapae Place hotel, which Montydog recommended earlier in this thread, is probably the best deal in town in a good location for 800 baht or less.

BTW, the Montri is notoriously NOT guest friendly, although some folks I know reported success sneaking their visitors in.
