does anyone know what the new evergreen deluxe class is like on the new boeing 777 aircraft and whether it is as good as the 747.Thanks

IMHO "Crap" and nowhere near as good as the old 747. If you are flying from UK I would suggest that you try China Air (upgrade) which works out at about the same price nowadays and at least gives you a proper Biz class seat, service and lounge use. Baggage allowance is only 20 Kg tho'. :fingers

It has little to nothing to do with the aircraft, but with how each individual airline configures the compartments and the seating therein.

Monkeyman has it right - I have been on both EVA's Evergreen and Elite - Evergreen has bigger seats with more room, you do have an individual screen but must choose from the 4-5 movies playing at that time

OTOH Elite has the nice individual entertainment system where you pick and control your own individual movie and game choices but much smaller seats and less shoulder and leg room - more like Cathy coach seats.

Given a choice - I choose Evergreen, but I fear that choice has a fast approaching expiration date. <grin

No, in reality it is not actually an upgrade, more of a slight "downgrade" from full Biz class really. <huh

Once booked, you WILL travel in the Buisness Class seat. :D

Having heard so much about the new 777, I arranged my long leg from Los Angeles to Taipei on the 777, just a few weeks ago. (both evergreen deluxe)

On my return, it was the 747.

The new elite seats are crap even for a small guy like myself, with less recline, less lower leg/feet support, and very narrow. For a short haul, I think they're great because you've got a better entertainment system. But for sleeping, it's an entirely different story, with no way to turn to the side, etc.

The newest upgrade in the evergreen 777 is the lack of restrooms. There were only two in the entire evergreen area, whereas the 747 has 4. Not much fun if you've really got to use the john as the rooms are often full. Then to add insult to injury, there's no place to stand and wait except in front of someone's seat.

In a few weeks I will be doing it again but this time on the 747 both ways.

  • 2 weeks later...

From the UK Evergreen has gone and been replaced by Elite on the 777. I had always used Evergreen and thoguht it agood deal as i am 6'+. It used to cost around £150 more than economy.

My last trip was on 777 Elite and without wanting to simply repeat what other people have said is nowhere near as good as Evergreen was. I dont know if its worth the extra expense now - especially as I dont really have a problem sleeping anyway.

It might be worth hunting for "deals" but unless you get a great one then economy may be the better option - sadly.

The problem with the new 777 in Elite and Economy is not the seat pitch, which IS identical to the old 747 layout, but the fact that on recline in both classes the seat pushes forward underneath your backside and if you're tall, whacking your knees into seat in front.

Also, whos ludicrous idea was it to produce footrests with a diameter of one and half inches in economy which when not in use reduces seat pitch by same ??

Ah sorry i think you misunderstood my point.

I was trying to say that if you book cattle class with China air, then when you get to the check in ask for upgrade to bizz class. Here is my point, they say sorry bizz class full. Then you are stuck in cattle class :D :D

...of course not...100% likelihood that the aircraft will be full, the seat next to you occupied by an overflowing lump and the seat infront fully reclined to give you that 45 degree sense of well-being while being eye-balled by that bloody curtain up front blocking the way to relative civilization.....don't worry about the taxi, there's never ever a shortage......

What would the cost be to upgrade at LHR from Elite to PL? This would probably have to be in the Low season as PL is usually full high season.

FWIW I fly out 29th in the zoo, hopefully some empty seats about.
