Well, well, well......looks like they will be buying "glue" in Toulouse after all.

"Airbus prepares to shift to all-composite barrel on A350 XWB

Friday May 25, 2007

Airbus is set to make yet another design change to its A350 XWB, this time dumping composite panels on an aluminum frame for an all-composite barrel...."

Story here:

http://www.atwonline.com/news/story.html?storyID=9009

From Flight International ............

Airbus does not intend to make changes to the fundamental fuselage design of its A350XWB, the company’s chief commercial officer customers John Leahy said today.

Discounting a report that Airbus is preparing to shift to an all-composite barrel, Leahy stressed that the fuselage design is frozen. “We have the A350-800, -900 and -1000,” he notes.

You guys will have to carry on this ridiculous topic without BigD, but rest assured, he will be able to read it.

So few Rolls Royce Trent engines used on the A380 and so many problems.

I wonder if the Airbus engineers realized they don't have the technological capability to work with composites on such a large scale and deliver the plane on time?

Maybe they should ask Boeing to 'loan' them the engineers who have the skills necessary to handle this?

Oh my, the topic is still alive

FYI, Quatar aways announced today, that they have placed an order for 50 A350`s with Airbus.

Emirates has increased their total orders for the 380 from 30 to 50 :allright . (Only Allah knows, how they will be able to make this investment paying off). It looks like, that there are finally some good news for EADS.

Greetings

Err, no. Wrong again BigD. Maybe the Mitsibushi, Fuji and Kawasaki et al engineers who are the people providing the parts to Boeing who are just sticking the thing together.

You know as well as I do that Boeing engineers are the lead designers and have a deep understanding of how to handle composites from years of experience working with them on other aircraft programs.

One thing to remember the name of the plane is Boeing 787 not the Mitsubishi, Fuji or Kawasaki 787. :allright

Both I and Boeing would disagree with you ............. ;)

From their own website:

Boeing announced that they would expect Japanese companies to produce approximately 35 percent of the 787 airframe. Its plans call for Kawasaki Heavy Industries to design and build the forward body section, the main landing gear wheel well and the wing fixed trailing edge; Fuji Heavy Industries to design and build the center wing box and integrate it with the main landing gear wheel-well; and for the first time a Boeing partner, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, will design and build the main wing.

How did the house hunting in Udon go? Still dreaming about relocating?

Boeing designed everything and left it to some of the subcontractors to do the detail work.

The wing was designed by Boeing and had to be a specific size and shape, but the Japanese subcontractor was left to decide how to designed and build the internal parts of the wing.

The fuselage was designed by Boeing and one section manufactured in Japan. The center wheel well and center wing tank were also made in Japan. Section 41, the front nose piece, which contains the cockpit, and on the B787 extends back beyond the first set of doors, was built in Kansas, USA. Two fuselage sections were built in Italy and then jointed together in South Carolina, USA, where two other fuselage sections were manufactured.

Boeing engineers have been on site around the world making sure it was done right and on time.

75% of the content of the B787 is from the U.S.

scaly,

Just quoting what Boeing says on its own website. :drunk Anyway, isn't one of Boeings design centres that is putting the 787 together actually in Moscow and staffed by over a thousand Russian engineers? :D

BTW the Japanese et al aren't sub-contractors, they are full programme partners.:banana

Still dreaming about relocating? :drunk

Some men can only dream about relocating. Others do. Wife and I will be in Pattaya during December looking at three bedroom, two bath houses to rent.

How sweet it is to have a fully funded retirement that gives us the freedom to live where we want and do what we want. :D

And you are living very comfortably in Thailand already :party Sorry, Tom :drunk but you never point these things out yourself. You would make a good poker player.

Yes, I've escaped up to BKK for a few days and will nip down to Singapore on Sunday to change my visa over (and pick up some SQ uniforms for Robin :D ). Then it's back up to life by the beach.

I got your e-mail but was wanting to square a couple of things away before bringing you up to date. Have you got dates for Sep/Oct yet? Let me know when you do and I'll get myself some cheapie flights sorted out.

I think it was Hicksville Post Office Truck Driver of the Year. :gulp

Apparently he went two years without a vehicle accident which is hardly surprising since, by his own account, he spent most of his "working" time asleep in the bag room.

Don't be making fun of Hicksville. There happens to be a very nice town called Hicksville, Ohio. It is located in the northwest corner of Ohio.

Gary,

You have my unreserved apologies. :party

Just looked it up on Google ....... seems a nice place ..........

Estimated population in July 2005: 3,533

According to our research there were 15 registered sex offenders living in Hicksville, Ohio in early 2007.

The ratio of number of residents in Hicksville to the number of sex offenders is 236 to 1. :drunk :gulp

No but at one time I did have a fair number of certificate of deposit. :banana :banana :banana

Well, it seems at this moment in time you're still dreaming.

You may consider it a dream, I consider it a well thought out plan that's coming very close to fruition. BTW it was 25 years of accident free driving and I never was driver of the year only driver of the month and it was the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Post Office.

Once again you show you don't know what your talking about. I've always stated the following: when my daughter goes to college and gets settled in, my wife and I plan on moving to Thailand. My daughter graduates from high school next week and she starts college this September. Come December my wife and I will be in Pattaya looking at three bedroom, two bath houses to rent.

As with many different things in the US, they get carried away. Real sex offenders deserve to have their names published and to be kept track of. A friend of mine is a registered sex offender. His crime was stopping along the road to take a piss. As a result of chicken shit convictions, we no longer pay enough attention to the real threats.

Sorry, BigD.

I was sure I could recall several years ago (in your Pooky days) that you announced you were making the move after you had completed your English Teacher course and then a bit later (in your Eden days) that you were then moving over for 18 months.

Like I said you don't know what your talking about. Couple of years ago my daughter wanted to come to LOS and spend one year in school. She changed her mind and she missed out on a fun year in LOS.
