Well just back now appx 3 weeks after a brilliant three weeks in Thailand. In Pattaya I bought two Digital MP4 players being sold as Ipods complete with logo! (ha) Anyway they looked the part and are of good quality I got all the bits with them. A demonstration by the shop assistant showed that they worked and sounded fine. When I got home I discovered that in the setting its all chinese or Thai the manual is in broken english and well does not make sense to me. I was told and read that windows xp would pick up the mp4 and have drivers but no I cannot achieve this. I got a cd along with it containing drivers but it does not appear to do the job it seems to be for win98. Anybody bought one of these before or have any ideas as to where i can download drivers? I think I saw somewhere it is manufactured by sigmatel?

I had a look on the net and found the Sigmatel site. They appear to be in the codec and DAC business rather than the player business. Codecs and DACs are components of an Audio Player. It would appear that your device is made with these components by another company.

You need to take a good look at the player, the documentation and the CD that came with it to see who the manufacturer is. They will almost definitly have a web site with the latest drivers that you can download.

Where did you buy these Ipod look alikes and how much were they? Did you save a lot? I bought a MP3 player in China a few years ago. I am still having problems getting it to work. I think there is a problem in the format. I tried changing the encoding format in my computer but still not getting it to work. Can you contact the shop you bought it at? Good luck.

I bought them about halfway between Mike mall and walking street and they cost me for 2, 6000 bht. If I am really stuck I am planning going out in April so I could return them however I would not expect much change out of the sho proprietors! But thats life should have bought one from the USA! a real one lol. Thanks anyway

I thought most of these MP3 4 players did not use drivers. What are you trying to do with it? Upload music? Your music in your collection would have to be in MP4 format and a media player that supports that. The Yahoo free jukebox player supports MP4, windows media player does not.

Basically windows should pick it up automatically on XP. You would only need the drivers for windows 98. Looks like you bought some duds. Never buy any electronics in Thailand most of it is shit. If it worked where you bought it, did they download music on to it from their computer? If so maybe they were using windows 98. You could partition your hard drive and get a copy of windows 98 put on it, then upload the discs that came with your product, maybe it might work.
