OK gurus  here is my itenerary:

Jan 1- New York to Hong Kong for a few days.

Then on to Thailand for a month

Fly home Feb 4

Cathay Pacific will do the job for US$1168.00 including all taxes. Does anyone think this will go down in the next few weeks? Should I book NOW or wait??????

Thanks,

Well, God knows fares are all over the place these days, but a lot of people are paying $1,110+ for either of the destinations you listed, so a multi-city on an airline like Cathay for that price all-in might be worth locking up. Look at it this way -- if the fares go down, it would be unlikely to be more than $75-100. If they go up, it could be $200 or more. Risk versus reward and all of that.

I used to do the same thing and wait and wait on tiny margins of fare decreases. I finally got burned once too often and decided that is a destination's fare was "worth it" to me, without regard to where the price might go in the interim, I closed the deal. So far, no huge regrets.

Just one opinion.

You possibly could get it a little cheaper if a deal comes up like the DOTM, but who knows? Luckily, we hit the DOTM and are flying JFK-BKK RT for around $850 all in later this year. Also, Cathay in my experience almost never charges for a HK layover. Have you seen this website - your price seems consistent with thiers?

Thanks gentlemen. I will probably book the tickets tonight. Does not seem worth the gamble to wait. There did not seem to be a charge for the Hong Kong layover.

I also found this information: http://www.farecompare.com/downloads/UsingHistorical.htm

Here is the actual website: http://www.farecompare.com/

Bad news Touristman, more Septics on the way. :D We promise to make a concerted effort not to muck the place up. We don't want to distrurb the packs of stinky, shirtless, still bloody from last night's fist fight, chain smoking and coughing up a lung over their fine breakie type folk. :D

Just curious as I ran dates on the CX website and got $1,019 all in for your dates - worth another look?

Hmm... I just purchased two tickets on CX website

Jan 1 JFK - HKG

Jan 6 HKG - BKK

Feb 4 HKG - JFK

1164.00 (inc. all taxes)

I also booked another ticket for a friend

Jan 16 JFK - BKK

Feb 4 BKK - JFK

1163.00 (inc. all taxes)

Was the 1019.00 not including tax?

Anyway, it's done and I feel better already. Thanks for you input!

Note on fares

The fare quoted is valid for this itinerary only. Any changes in date, flight or traveling period may result in a different fare.

So is you wait a day to come back, you save ~$125. I don't know if its too late, but figured i'd post it just in case you and your friend could save a few bucks by staying an extra day.
