View Talay 7

Recommended Posts

Whats going on with the View Talay 7 development on queer's beach Jomtien. Law suits and a lot of shit is apparently going on. The condo owners east of it are suing because VT 7 will block their view and they claim the location MUST be two hundred meters from the water to be over 14 meters high. It is obviously closer than two hundred meters to the water.

Anyone in the know?

well i recently read that they have indeed managed to block the building temporarily....so its all stop so far.

The potential along this beach area should be one of a high class resort rather than gap site city.......again its a shame. (although it is a nice walk)

Construction restarted. However no guarantee from the developer of foreign ownership! :behead :behead :behead

I saw that Ocean 1 Tower was to go ahead on a news article a few days ago, that is some 91 floors, tallest in Thailand! As to VT7, if the construction is now going ahead, what has prompted this? Just 14 metres or 4 floors, for real?

What I find is amazing is the absolute silence on this issue from Pattaya Mail and the other expatriate newspapers.

This is an issue that concerns a lot of their readership as it could have effects on many other developments where ex-pats have invested

A bit of honest reporting would be good to heighten the awareness of the ex-pat community - it seems they are all to eager to cover the fact that Ocean 1 has got its permit to build, but will not report on the VT7 story.

Would be too much to expect that the poeple on Pattaya mail would be competent enough to do some investigative journalism regarding whether there was any corruption at City hall during the granting of these permits...

Crobe,

Local newspappers made articles about the "VT7 authorisation problem" in July and August, but now there is nothing more to say/write : everybody is waiting for the court decision, and then there will be articles to write again...

As far as I can see (by searching PattayaMail) they have not done anything on this story since April 20th.

This is despite the court proceeding and administrative prders that have been issued last month after VT re-started work and a new injunction (to stop them building over 14m high) was enacted in the administrative court.

In fact the only reference to the story since then is a recent letter to their editor (not by me) asking why they are not reporting the story

It was damn sure fuzzy math that came up with the over 200 meter measurement. I'd say it is quite obvious that it is not much more than 100 meters. It looks like they got caught. Now the question is will it go ahead or not. There is a LOT of money at stake and big money often bends a lot of rules. They may be dredging sand to extend the beach out to the legal 200 meters.

Why would the papers actually undertake some investigative journalism ? I mean, day in, day out, there is so much corruption to comment on but they do nothing, preferring to socialise with the very people at the top of the corruption feeding trough.

How do you get an illegal permit ? brown bags full of money same as in any corrupt society. Now those brown bags have been given out they cannot be reclaimed so it is in so-one's interest to investigate it. People move office, not the next guy's responsibility etc.
