a question please

Recommended Posts

I have a return ticket booked with Thai going out Jan 18th returning Feb 18th..now this as been subject to some doubt now because of the impending strikes at heathrow in January..my question is, if I were to book with a different carrier for my outward journey (before the strike starts) would I still be able to travel back home on my original Thai ticket?

if anyone as done this before I would be interested to hear it..Im prepared to pay £344 with EVA just for peace of mind and an enjoyable christmas

If you fail to show for your outbound journey then the inbound reservation is automatically deleted.

It will still fall on thai to sort out your outbound travel at the earliest opportunity should your outbound flight be cancelled.

Sorry mate, but this that I just found on the Thai website would suggest otherwise

Please be advised that if you do not show up for any flight without advising us in advance, we may cancel your return or onward reservations. However, if you do advise us in advance, we will not cancel your subsequent flight reservations.

The news program I just watched said that the strikes were planned for the 7th and the 14th January so you should be ok anyway.

24 hour strikes starting on the 7th and 14th and a 48 hour strike starting on the 17th

Pattayamad,

Dont rely on what it says on any website.I assure you that ALL airlines cancel without question return reservations for no shows on outward sector.

As my partner is a reservation agent I assure you the information is accurate.

If there is a paragragh detailing what you say, then you need to get that in writing with a clear signature/time/date from Thai before you go.

Still dont understand why you would want to shell out £300 plus anyway when thai will still get you there anyway ??

I know its hard to do, but you need to just wait and see what happens, unless you absolutely have to be in Thailand for the 19th.

The strikes for 17th/18th may not go ahead. Things may be resolved before then.

Even if they do, Thai will be working to sort out how they are going to get umpteen hundred people booked to go with them on 17th/18th through to Bangkok. Some will be put on later flights, some will be put on different airlines, some will be routed via Thai flights from other destinations. Thai may even put on a couple of extra flights during the next couple of days.

If you do need to get there for 19th then one thing you could try is to see if Thai will let you change your outward flight to one from one of the other european airports they fly from. Then you can get a cheap flight from UK to there to connect with it. Could be cheaper than just getting a 1-way EVA flight.

As I'm flying on 16th I spent Friday morning sat waiting for the news about strike dates and fortunately for me I lucked out. You have my sympathies.

While i have every sympathy with their cause, why is it always

the paying public that has to suffer all the inconvenience and

disruption and hardship to one's plans.

The whole idea of striking action is to cause major disruption but the action is normally called when all attempts at negotiation have failed and is seen as the only course of left to take in an effort to get compromise.

You are right...... it is the paying public who suffer at all times and in all strikes.

Does not compute. If you actually have sympathy with their cause, then you support a strike, I presume. Either that or you have some method by which they get everything they want from management without any action at all that we can see. "The paying public" is the specific target of any strike by a service company.

The entire, whole, unique only purpose of an airline strike is to target, inconvenience and harm you -- yes, you. How else would they boost all that sympathy you have with their cause? Who else COULD they make suffer, except you?

FWIW I don't support them. But what they're doing, and what they "have to do" is clear as new crystal.

I thank you for all your replies, and will take them all on board, Chivas I understand what you are saying and you can rest assured I will take it up with Thai before I make any decisions on this, I really do need to be in BKK by the 19th at the earliest, this is why I am looking at all options right now.

I really don`t want to throw 344 quid away but this is what I may have to do if we get nearer the date and the strikes have not been resolved.

Why should changing to EVA help? Are they uneffected by the strike?

because the EVA flight would be on the 16th, before the strike starts

As well as strikes in the UK, Strikes are being threatened in Australia by Qantas engineers who amongst other things do the preflight safety checks not only for Qantas but i think they have contracts with a few other Airlines like British Airways.

Combined with the UK strikes could throw a spanner in the works for the whole regions airline schedules.

these strikes are a few weeks away and the Unions now full well its one of the busiest periods for airline travel so are using it to there advantage, when it comes to it think both the UK and Australian strikes wont go ahead, unions and management will sort it out.

Tell me please, do airlines have a legal obligation to get you to your destination when there is disruption, or can they just cancel and leave you in the lurch?

Stop panicking Thai will get you there.

If you cancel your ticket because you might have a problem you will face cancellations charges at best-loss of all monies at worst.

Thai International are not Easy jet (though some will beg to differ :P ) and will sort alternative flights if and when neccessary.

IMHO no disruption will take place-it will be sorted.
