Eva Air Elite Class Everygreen Deluxe

Recommended Posts

Well time goes on and plans change. I was planning on going from Tampa to JFK and JFK to BKK direct.

Problem (well, not really) is now I will be on the west coast (Vegas) prior to departure.

So here is my question: Is the Eva Air Elite Class worth a (potential) extra $264?

Reason I say "potential" is my employer is going to reimburse me a predesignated amount for my travel. I am changing work locations from Tampa to Turkey and they will pay me THEIR cost of that trip.

I can book whatever route of travel I please and go where I want. Based on ticket prices I get to swing Vegas and BKK (really Pattaya) FREE :clap2 . Only (remote) concern is if they catch the upgraded ticket and balk at the price they may only reimburse the economy rate. Leaving me to pay the $264 out of pocket.

I can hear it now......."STFU!! Are you crazy, basically a free trip and you are whining about $264". :D I know, Iknow, I will gladly pay it, if it is worth it. It would be better if it is free ....but if not, I don't want to just throw away 7 ST's :behead

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly but, your employer is going to give you an "allowance" equal to their cost for a trip from Tampa to Turkey for you do with as you please(as long as you get to Turkey)? If that is the case, would they even need to see documentation?

None of this answers your question though. As "The Mook" said, it depends on your size. If you can comfortably sit in a coach class seat with no elbow room for 1 hour(LAS-LAX)**, 15 hours(LAX-TPE), 4 hours(TPE-BKK) then you know the answer. Me, at 6'3", 249lbs, I would have a hard time crammed in a coach seat with, no doubt, the 4'11" Chinese woman in front of me who insists on keeping her seat in the fully reclined position for the entire flight. Is it worth it for me for the extra leg room and a little wider seat? Without a doubt, yes. Food? All airline food sucks no matter what class is flown. In flight entertainment? On the 777 I understand it's decent no matter where you sit. Probably not a deal maker/breaker.

If cost of the ticket is a concern you might want to check EVA flights from LAX-BKK instead of LAS-BKK. With enough advance purchase you can get $49 flights on Southwest from LAS-LAX. They fly that route roughly every 60-90minutes. You'd have to take a feeder airline from Vegas to LA anyhow as EVA doesn't fly out of LAS. So, same-same but maybe a little cheaper.

** The LAS-LAX portion would be economy class regardless of what airline you ticketed with.

I have taken EVA twice from the West Coast to BKK, once in Evergreen Delux and once in Elite. The time before I flew Korean in coach class. For me, the extra money was well worth the extra comfort. It came out to about $7 per hour in the air. The leg supports alone were worth more than that.

UPDATE:

Yes, they will want to see the documentation. Because if I only spend $1000 thats all they will repay.

I am only 5' 8", 180 lbs so I am "normal" sized.

What I didnt realize at the time is Thai has a non-stop flight from LAX. So, yep, I am doing Southwest from Vegas to LAX and LAX direct to BKK in premium economy for about $1k.

So when its all said and done I spent just over the allowance I am provided.

I fly EVA from Seattle all the time... and like the Evergreen Deluxe.

The seats are wider with more leg room. However, they are hard and I still get a sore butt after sitting for 14 hours! I think the downside is that I usually get on the older plan with only a few in flight movie channels. I think the entertainment is not so good. The movies come on a fixed times, so if you are sleeping you would miss part of a movie.

I did fly China Air once in economy class... and I actually enjoyed the experience. The entertainment was fine and the seats pretty good. The entertainment is "on demand" so you can start a movie at any time unlike EVA.

On my next trip... I will fly China Air for about a $400 dollar savings over EVA Evergreen Deluxe. I thought that was enough incentive to make the change in airlines. China did have a poor safety record.. but they made changes and now they are pretty good. If I enjoy the China air trip.. I may switch over to them for the cheaper flights.
