swimming pool costs

Recommended Posts

Can anyone let me know the rough costs of running a swiming pool out here, about 10msq and 1.2m deep.

Everybody I know is putting me off as they say the cost is astronomical. But they don't have one. The missus

seems to think it's more expensive than a house. I can get quotes for building one but the cleaning, elecricity, filter costs no idea. anyone have any prices.

700,000 Baht. That is what a friend of mine paid for his pool in Bangkok about 4 years ago. Depends on the ground where it is being built too. He needed 2 meter steel pipes sunk every 100cm or something silly. Running costs are low as once his daughter grew tired of it he changed it into a fish pond.

If you're just talking about maintenance, it's not that much. The secret is to do it right in the first place. The most important thing is a good filter and the pool correctly designed for the filter to take the water through skimmers. The skimmers will pull leaves and anything else that is floating, If they have a chance to sink to the bottom, it's a lot more work to vacuum them out. You need a good water test kit to keep the PH correct but that's not expensive and once the water is balanced, you seldom have any more PH problems. The easiest pool to maintain is a salt water pool. You can then install a device that makes chlorine directly from the water. A salt water pool is a deceptive description. The salt is at a level that you can barely taste it If you can easily taste it, you have too much salt. The salt water is also better for your skin. If you don't have a salt water pool, then you must buy chlorine. It doesn't take a lot and the test kit also tells you the correct level of chlorine to keep in the water. The filter for a small pool, and you are describing a tiny pool will be maybe one horsepower and should run an hour or so a day depending on how much you use the pool. They do need to be taken care of and it is a several times a week job. If the water goes green, you will need to drain the pool and scrub the sides and bottom. That's a LOT of work.

My mate in Rayong had the same idea. He had the hole dug for peanuts. When he inquired about having a pool installed, the price was fantastically high. He too now has a fish pond.

I have a feeling that swimming pools are a Ferang thing and are priced accordingly.

Sparkey,

We have a pool approx 12m x 6m & depths from 1.2m to 1.7m. also have a small wading pool for the kids to mess around in. Maintainance is around 1600 baht per month plus chemicals which can vary from 800 to 1200 baht per month depending on the time of year. The electric charges are mininmal but as they are incorporated into our household bill I cannot give you a figure on them. Talk to some of the pool companies prior to putting in your pool & they will give you a ball park figure for the upkeep. Also when getting the quote for the installation dont forget to look at the pool surronds etc . Would I ever put a pool in if I built another house , you bet I would.

Depending on the size, would range from 500-800K for a decently sized pool. You could get your swimming pool supplies from Pool Master Swimming Pool in Thailand. I can personally vouch for this company. Perhaps ask them for rough estimates too. Paying for someone to maintain a pool would only be around 1000-2000 Baht a month.
