Achtung American proles!

Recommended Posts

From a friend. I thought Americans here might like to know.

xxxxxxxxxx

Americans now are privileged to be able to line up in order to line up for the expensive US "services" at the embassy in Bangkok (passport, birth certificates, etc etc). Of course it's only done for us, because we deserve the best. Jeez. Now taxes are going to spin doctors, too!

Yeah, I know, it's crowded in there sometimes, but come ON! This is Thailand.

New Appointment System for ACS Services Begins in March

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/embassy/wwc/r...s-in-march.html

Here are your orders, proles:

In order to serve you better,

hahahahaha just kidding but let me repeat that:

In order to serve you better, beginning this month, the American Citizen Services section introduce an appointment system for all non-emergency services to include notarials, passport services, and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. We will continue to provide emergency services on an as needed basis. Appointments can be made online at:

https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.as...K&appcode=1

This link can also be accessed by going to our website at: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service.html

We will not be able to book appointments over the phone.

The purpose of the appointment system is to cut wait times for services and allow us to provide you with better service as demand for our services continues to grow. As we transition to the new appointment system, we will continue to accept walk-ins, but will give priority to those who made appointments online. Thank you for your understanding as we work to provide you with a higher standard of service.

My local council now has a policy where you go along to the offices to queue up to make an appointment for another day. Whereas before, you just walked in and waited to see someone. They believe, you going there twice, gives a more efficient service. :clueless

Indeed they do. They really, actually do.

Scary. I make sure I let any child I come across know better, so (s)he doesn't fall into their entrapment.

I'll give you an example of how those lazy assholes operate. The background is that my parents are both 87 years old. An emergency could happen at any time. I really wouldn't want to make the trip back to the US alone so I decided to get my Thai wife a visa. We went to the embassy and there was no one to talk to. I was told I had to make an appointment. I live about 650 kilometers from the embassy. I called to make an appointment and was told that I needed a PIN number. That cost me $20. I them was able to make a phone call. The guy I talked to didn't know his ass from his elbow. I wanted information as to what kind of visa she needed. I was told that a visa must be used for the time period it is issued. I explained that I had NO idea when I was going to have to go. I suggested a ten year visa and was told that was VERY difficult. It ended up that if I made an appointment, maybe I would get a visa and maybe not. I'll be fucked if I'm going to go all the way to Bangkok to possibly get a visa that will expire before I could use it.

Thailand is our home. I have a condo and my wife has a home and a couple small farms. We have absolutely no intention of EVER moving to the US.

Since the lazy bastards that work at the embassy do all their business with automatic canned computer messages, they MUST have a lot of time and may read this forum. If so, they know exactly what I think of the visa section. Whoever runs that section should be fired. Public servants indeed!

I think the people who make appointments for the US and for other embassies are out-sourcing companies, and not connected with the visa except by the monthly payment. Who handles their phones I don't know. I have made appointments for the US Embassy online and it worked.

So far as getting a visa, you have to go to embassy and be interviewed. Most wives will get a 10-year visa automagically without a problem, but they MUST be seen and interviewed in person, and of course nothing is certain.

Don't you think it would have been logical to have someone explain the options to me? I paid $20 to talk to some asshole who explained NOTHING! Emails yielded canned replies that led to other canned replies. The guy on the phone asked me no questions and offered no information other than I have to make an appointment.

I'm reminded of one of the variations on the "3 biggest lies" joke . . .

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

I don't know. Last time I was there I waited a grand total of about 15-20 minutes. The next thing we know, they'll be charging $$$.

J

Do you get blinkers issued with your passports in the USA......? :clueless

To better protect the value of their services, perhaps they should be charging in Euros?

Well, of course most of the payment is in baht so they've put a hell of a lot of gelt in the bank in the past couple of years.

Gary,

You should be thankful that the person at the other end of the phone could peak English.

I have never had anything but fast and efficient service at the embassy. I go there once or twice a year and they are helpful. If you think the prices are high ask some of your Brit friends what they pay for various services such as registering a child.
