Ian I have not stayed there in a while but as I pass there most days I can confirm that the construction starts early in the morning until about 6pm and can be quite noisy at times.

There is also alot of dust about.

Hope this helps.

I stayed at Areca in January and wasn't really bothered by construction noise.

I was however, pissed off every morning with the fucking roosters and chooks next door, which seemed to make noise all night long not just at sunrise. My room was on the first floor overlooking the back pool, on the left of the building looking toward the pool. The property next door had roosters and chooks everywhere in the yard which made noise constantly. I left my air con and tv on softly each night to compensate for the outside noise.

I love this hotel and would always insist on a room in the front building from now on.

Enjoy your stay.

just booked in a few days ago, and was allocated a superior room overlooking the big pool and building site.

work is still going on, but there is very little noise and it certainly doesn't wake me in the mornings. the air conditioning unit takes a couple of days to get used to though. very very efficient.

using the small pool at the front so again no problem from the site

ian,

Construction doesn't affect the use of the back pool at all. Sitting at the pool you only see a constrution fence, which is well behind the pool in the area you would never walk anyway, otherwise the back pool is as normal. Front pool in normal use also.

I'm booked into Areca in November, i have booked it through Sawasdee.com for 1050 per night(standard) that's 250 Baht a night cheaper than booking direct with the hotel.I requested a double bed,but they say they only have rooms with twin beds.

Can anyone tell me how big the twin beds are?It puts me off a bit not having a double bed,but they'll see if one is available nearer my arrival time.

They told me i'm in the Areca wing,is that the front part?

Has anyone got any update on the construction/noise situation?

When you book with sawasdee.com you initially pay the 1st night deposit then the balance is due 2 weeks before you arrive(online by C/C).This is another thing i don't normally do just in case there are any issues(like i mentioned) and you want to change hotels.

I have stayed in the AL in July.

I cannot commend on the twin beds, always hat a double.

Areca Wing is the back part if i rember right.

Construction noise was minimal, no problem for me at all.

If you want the cheaper price, you have to pay up front with sawadee, that`s the deal. I have stayed at the Areca about 8 times so far an the place gives a good value for Baht 1.050 a night, including breakfast.

Have a good trip!

Thanks for the heads up,i've still got 2 weeks to decide before payment to sawasdee.com.It does put me off paying for the room 'up front'(before i see it) So have been looking at Sandy Spring as an option. What's the pool like there?
