Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Girls, girls, too many girls.

There is something which I know that they have which Pattaya Beer Garden currently doesn't have. This could make a big difference.

OK, I'll bite. What's the BIG difference?

PP,

I conducted a recon the other night and found the bar to have a more then decent selection of FL. BTW my beer was very cold and the fish chip excellent. Food was delivered from the kitchen quickly.

Had a quick visit there last night, around 11 PM. Not many girls there, but a very nice place. The male Thai bartender had some English trouble, though, but that will soon pass.

I asked what kind of bottled beer they had. "Heineken," he said. "Only Heineken?" I asked. "Yes." "Not San miguel light?" "No". "What is in that trunk with San Miguel logo on?" "Oh, that is San Miguel light..." I found it more funny than annoying, but maybe put a short drink menu on the bar would be a good thing (maybe it was there, but I did not see it, and I looked).

I will pay a repeat visit at another hour. I know this is mainly a place to meet freelancers, but I think it is a brilliant place to bring a girl for some late drinks by the sea.

They have not appeared "all of a sudden". We have been working our asses off for five months to make it a place that the girls would like to hang out. Our efforts are paying off with the night time crowd. Still more work to do with the daytimes though.

Good luck Pete, as we all know most Thai girls don’t get out of bed after 15:00 hrs

Me neither.

Bangkok's Beer garden and Gullivers and Pattaya's Walking Street (which opened about the same time as Pattaya Beer Garden) - all are freelancer places and all are busy whenever I have gone in.

There is something which I know that they have which Pattaya Beer Garden currently doesn't have. This could make a big difference.

Pool Tables?

btw - your timeline is waaaaaaaaaaay off.

Soi 7 Beer Garden has been there 10 or 15 years. Maybe more. Can't remember.

dotcom, BigD...

Pool tables! Yes, Pool tables!!!

(btw when I referred to 'opened about the same time as Pattaya Beer Garden' I was referring only to the 'Walking Street' bar which has hit the floor running and is always full...and yes it has pool tables)

But lets not hark on about pool tables. This is just one item which forms part of the general approach.

I posted about this general approach - which I think will send the numbers of freelancers and guys going to PBG into the stratosphere - much earlier in the year and it did not seem to be picked up.

You need to turn PBG into the sort of place that guys, especially ex-pats, will want to go to even if it were not full of freelancers.

This means good food, screens showing live sport, long happy hours, arrangements with pattaya forums so that it becomes a place for people to meet for forum meets, etc. Most of this is already in place.

Pool tables, bar games are all part of this general strategy.

In the chicken and egg debate as to which came first - the answer is that guys will stay and drink in a bar if there are no girls there, as long as the bar is attractive in other ways, however girls will never go and stay in a bar for long if there are no guys.

By all means try and attract both at the same time (which I acknowledge that PBG has been doing) but attracting the guys is most important. Once the guys are there, the girls will follow like flies on shit.

I also saw that the old site of "Malibu" Soi13/2nd rd has now re-opened as "Bamboo2" bar,so even more competition for freelancers!

And there is a new sports bar opening in Walking Street soon, which I expect will have more freelancers.

Freelancer bars are the way to go I think.

If the authorities crack down in the future on go go bars, beer bars and other bars where girls are paid to entertain customers - as part of a drive to 'clean up' Pattaya - there is not much that they could do about freelancer bars where girls just come to sit around <grin

Once the guys are there, the girls will follow like flies on shit.....So you calling the guys shit?

No, apart from some notable exceptions on this board. However, if the girls were flies I wouldn't mind being a pound of manure for a bit.

Freelancer bars are the way to go I think.

Could be right, although I'm not convinced.

IN THE BEGINNING...

Girls were all free-lancers and they paid to be in the bars to be able to meet potential guests. The bar owners "allowed" them to help to clean the place, arrange the furniture, serve some drinks, etc.

The go-go bars made it necessary to start paying some of them to show up on time. Then all the bars started paying all their girls, no matter what their purpose.

Maybe the freelance revolution will return? I'm not convinced, because through all the pay-them times, there also have been freelancers. But it is for sure that there are more freelance places opening, and it is an attractive business model that you don't have to pay the staff, and in fact they might pay you. The Grace Hotel in Bangkok is one place that got filthy rich from this. Maybe it's time for a big, big comeback to all-freelance.

Good food, reasonable prices, top notch service staff.

Great place to relax and enjoy yourself, with or without female company.

And a terrific view across the bay.

ok i have a serious suggestion, all the signage i have seen is in english, please put some large large signs up in thai for the girls, something along the lines of "get you farang here" "farang takeaway" "farang boyfriends inside" etc etc get the girls to come hunting the farang. The girls NEED to be shown in thai that they can come and get a farang inside. Many girls are reluctant to wander into a bar if they are alone because most of the times they are not welcome in any bar except their own. Due to the fact they are stopping possible bar fines from the establishment. So please get some thai signage up
