Joy Travel - Scam Section

Pattaya travel agent scam. Theft with impunity, Joy Travel, Soi 8 (and about ten other names and Jomtien).

Transfered from Bangkok Bank to SBC bank as instructed by thier agent, a week later never recieved air ticket.

I phoned and was told "oh the lady left" and took your money and 100,000 of his money!

Already sounds like a scam (he doesn't report a loss of 100,000 THB)???

So what is a farang to do? Check all 17 offices to see where she is?

Most visitors are here only a few weeks and cannot check into the company, and I believe this is what the scam is based on, placement of the agent. Fortunately (or not) I'm here full time so can invest the time to investigate.

Owner would not even supply National ID card number of his agent, who incidently was there a year and a half ago.

So after numerous hang ups by them I start contacting Thai "inefficient officials" ha ha...

contacted TAT Response=0 , TAT Crimes Division Response=0 (3 days calling no answer) , Thai Police= "can't do anything due to constitution"? filed report, Tourist Police (reply pending).

Site seems to be mostly "Smoke and Mirrors", I checked incoming links with Alexia, Google, Yahoo, etc. found 0 return links and contacted website displayed organization logos, such as ASTA American Society of Travel Agents, IATA, etc. You guessed it not a member...

My loss a bit over (800USD 630 EURO).

More fully documented details; Joy Travel Scam Pattaya

So, can anyone suggest a decent "reliable" agent to purchase return airline tickets?

Comiserations, thats a crap thing to happen to you. I hope that this being posted will prevent other BM`s being caught out.

I know it is too late now but pity you didnt insist on using a credit card, at least you would have had some help getting your cash back. Any company that will not accept a card is a worry if you dont know their record or even looking for an alternative agent irrespective of ticket cost.

Although this post will be of little comfort to you, and respectably I am not being clever in posting it, I just hope that the other BM`s in Pattaya will spread the word and hit this bastard in the pocket. :ang2

Perhaps strange though that someone finds this board yesterday when they live in Pattaya and the first post is like this.

Why would someone who lives in Pattaya transfer money by bank and nt direct with the business.

Sorry but until proven otherwise I say don't feed the TROLL.

PS

I have used Joy Travel a few times with no problems over the last X number of years.

So the agency has no responsibility for the criminal actions of it's employees and passes the cost on to the customers. Pretty shitty...

The busines is crying out for ABTA (approved association). Your only 'Joy' might be a private court case, but it is like throwing good money after bad. I have dealt weith these guys but it was only a visa run.

You have done some good, I will use cash, at the agency, get a receipt, and, as has happened, see the money given over to a 'cashier' in the place.

Tell me, whose name was the SBC (not SCB???) account in.... not the name of Joy Travel?

Are you sure this happened? More importantly, are you sure this happens, i.e. that it's a scam?

Guy logs on, Post number 1 is about a scam. It involves a heavily installed travel agency, so it seems to me that the people behind Joy must have set up umpteen branches to get $800. Anything is possible, but this is pretty incredible.

Also, Google shows no other Joy scams.

I'm just saying.

I posted a thread about Joy travel back in Aug , I paid for my ticket 8 weeks before I took my Thai girl back to the Uk . I was on my way to the Airport to catch my flight home When i got a phone call from Joy travel , She said that There had been a problem with my ticket , 1 hour before i was due to fly from Bangkok,To cut a long story short , she had cancelled my ticket two days before i was due to fly home ,I know this to be fact because i checked at the Airline desk , U a E, She probly thought i would just pay for some more tkts , because she new I was taking my Thai girl back with me, Her first time out of Thailand and on a holiday Visa, I was lucky because my Thai ladys family lives in Bangkok not far from the airport. It took two days of angry phone calls to her , I told her i would be coming back to Pattaya and going to the tourist police, That got things started, She booked me on a swiss air flight , I also told her i wanted a confomation number so i could check by phone before i go to the airport.I got one, when i arrived at the airport I went to Swiss air cheak in desk and they gave me my tickets , On checking them she had only booked for my girl to come to the Uk for 6 weeks not 6 months , Again i was straight on the phoned to her .Because swiss air wanted to charge me two thousand baht to change the date of my tkts, I just said i will not be paying so joy travel got the bill, Only a few weeks ago i got a tex from a mate of mine , he runs a Thai visa service , he told me the same thing had happened to a guy who he had got a visa for , This guy just paid again and walked away because like me he had a date to stick to with his visa, All i got when i posted was some wise comments , Well I told you so.. Ps , I also have used Joy travel a few times over the years thats what sickens me I thought i was a valued coustomer..

It is up to the OP to verify his cred! But of course I am not sure this happened, the same way I am not sure the sun will rise tomorrow. Employees managing to run off with money, or employees organising a nice little scam are not unheard of. Of course someone's first post might not be taken seriously, but it just means he has no experience of posting, not that he has no experience... (MM taught me that...2guns) Edited by jacko
