Lost my job a few days before Pattaya--Trip delayed

Well, I was supposed to already be in Pattaya...but a few days before I was set to leave, I got a call from

work saying that I and others in my company section had been layed off....

 

So I was able to postpone my flight, and I have up to two years to use it, and I went back to fill

out all the items in the severance package...but I am scared!

 

I am a few months away from my 50th birthday and it is frightening because there are no jobs

and I am a middle aged white guy(we are the least desireable hires in America)...who is going to hire an

aging middle aged white guy?

 

Minorities and young pretty women get the jobs....Well, I am close to rebooking and probably be

in Pattaya towards end of February so I spend two weeks drinking my worries away!

Just heard from my younger Brother working Singapoor,same to him today.At least he had idea might be coming,as you say no one hireing at present.

Same Same in Aus jobs going by the day .

Have a holiday in LOS anyway. We are living in scary times.

Take your holiday and take time to think of your next move.

 

Try to look at this as not a door closing but a doorway to your new life.

 

If your present career doesnt look like any re-hiring prospects then its time for a re-train. Dont be scared to go back to education and then start out self-employed in your chosen field. The world really can be your oyster but positive thinking will kick it off whilst negative thinking will do you no good.

 

I know its easier said than done and even at 50, its a scary world out there but the rewards will be great when you achieve your next planned step.

Sad to hear of anyone hitting hard times. Use your trip to Patts to build up good memories to get you through. Things can only get better, hopefully sooner rather than later. It's no consolation but try and count your blessings.

A group of 10 ageing guys (of which I am one) meet up for a drink every Sunday evening. Over the last 3 months 6 of our number have lost their jobs with no realistic prospects of getting further employment. Certainly life sucks right now.
