Hello,

Can someone please have a look what the exchange rate is at one of the money change offices.

I use NAB bank and today they give 21.19 per dollar if I would take out money at an ATM when in Pattaya.

Is the rate any better over there at the exchange office?

I'm thinking of bringing a reasonable cash amount to cover me for the first few weeks.

Thanks for the effort.

Thanks guys,

I'll be bringing a chunk of cash this time to get me started.

Looks like I'll be saving 2100 Bth for every $1000AUD I change.

Not really, I have found I always get a better exchange rate from the money exchangers than I do from the banks.
Most of the money exchanger kiosks are part of the major banks and use the rates supplied from head office. If you know exchange places that are independent and offer better rates, perhaps list a few.

I look at the rates on offer, but no longer need to exchange cash, as I just send directly into a Thai bank account.

ask the bank what other charges they impose. oz banks charge at least $5 for an atm withdrawal and some charge a lot more.

ATM fees have been taken away from the banks in Australia and are now charged by the ATM operators.

How does that work? if the ATM you are using is overseas and they dont charge for the useage and the bank that processes the transaction doesnt charge you, what is the cost?

Never buy Thai baht in Australia, the cheapest way to exchange ozzie dollars cash is in Thailand, actually the airport money changers run by the banks are much better than the Travelex thieves in OZ. If you use an OZ credit card you will pay the TT or sight bill rate, which is better than the cash rate in Thailand, and everywhere else also.

Only used Travelex once and that was enough, total ripoffs now I just bring cash with a credit card backup.
