I used to be prescribed Prozac by my doctor, but actually found the side effects of the drug actually made things worse for me. I stopped taking the stuff 4 years ago and feel much better for myself for being off it..

Thailand is now the only drug I need to stop me sliding into depression again. Yes, it's a rollercoaster ride - but it's worth it!!!

I'm certain Boots Pharmacies will have them.

There is a Boots Pharmacy in the Big C shopping center (Big C Pattaya, Unit 112, Ground Fl., BigC Supercenter).

There are probably other stores around Patts, but that's the one I know.

Not sure about the cost, but as I understand the Thai health system, at lease you don't need a script.

I was prescribed it for panic attacks years ago and found the side affects to not be worth it. I have been off the stuff for years and agree with TF. It really affected my libido and aggravated my heartburn problem.

I agree about Thailand also, so much so I am going to give up this rat race and go there and really live life. We far too often only exist and fail to live life. That is what causes our problems. Pharmaceuticals don't resolve the causes. They just mask the symptoms.

I reached a point where I realized I was just working to make enough money to continue living here so that I could keep working here.

With that you get all the stress and health issues that go with it, a sedentary life style, western diet, less exercise......

All of that was worth it when I was working to support a family. Now it is just me.

You need a script at Boots and all pharmacies for most medicines, but some places turn a blind eye for us farangs.

Does anyone know where to get these tablets from and what they cost?

Google search shows generic available here at 10-15 baht per - no prescription needed. Fascino Pharmacy on N. Pattaya Road has good prices.

Hi,

I was on Prozac for about 10 months and just gave them up. They affected my usually strong sex drive and allowed me to drink more than usual which was not a good idea. I have a friend who said they were great for her, but only negative experience from me and I would never take them again. I usually drink a bottle of Cava very quickly if I feel a bit down these days. :behead

Cheers Redwood, done a google search myself and nothing came up, what did you type in.

Here is my take on them about 4 years i was prescribed them for depression, i was out of work at the time and didnt wish to go back to my former profession, anyway 2-3 months after taking them i got a very good sales job and was earning 2000GBP a week for barely 20 hours work, and hey presto things the so called dark cloud disappeared.

Move forward to today and im out of work again, but have been doing courses to get a specific job that pays similar to the one before, and ive just been offered a start but not for a few months, im looking to take them now so that im in a better frame of mind, but maybe a more balanced settled life will help remove the cloud that is here for a few days a week.

PS I go to the gym most days (as ive so much free time) and rarely drink anymore due to nothing more then not desiring it anymore, the fitness definitely helps, but not being able to hide behind alcohol may make the cloud appear.

See esp. post #2

Was in Fascino pharmacy today but didn't remember to ask re your needs.

Seems I need MEPs (memory enhancement pills).

Prozac doesn't cure depression, it is just a drug that masks the symptoms. The best cure for depression is finding the cause of it. There are events/reasons that cause depression, usually something that has happened previously. Counselling often helps - being able to talk to someone about the cause of the problems. Do a bit of reading, on the subject.... it helps, it help me understand the causes of my episodes of depression. Now when things happen I can react to the cause.

Prozac is meant to balance chemicals in your brain to get you on an even keel, its not meant to mask anything.

As for counselling that is the biggest waste of time in the world IMO, i was almost killed in a unprovoked assault 10 years ago in which the person got 7yrs in prison, as this is an anonymous forum i will say that i was intent on seeking revenge on this guy anyway i went to see a counsellor and after offering me the dumbest cod philiosphy/ that could have been read in the first few pages of any A level pyschology book. He then in his prophet like ways said, it is ok to think about hurting someone but its not ok to do it ..... now this was after a few sessions i was offered this wonderful advice.

Im not saying all these pyscholigists are bad and madder then i could ever get in my worst nightmare but just the significant majority, finding one that i believed has intelligence im sure would change my opinion of them but most are just from some university mill or other with no real life experience that they could relate to my own .... IMO this job cant be learned through studying for 3 or 5 or 7 years its more a natural gift.

Different things for different folks though, its worth a shot if nothing else for other people and i'd probably recommend it for others, but at the end of the day im a believer youve got to pick yourself up when youre down and no drugs or counselling will do it for you but the may give you that little boost that'll make the difference.

Cheers Redwood for finding that out for me.

Trained counsellers are often the wrong people to be doing the job..... what is needed is someone who has real experience of going through it.

5 years ago I was going through a rough patch caused by relationshiop problems and asked my doc to put me back on the prozac. A couple of months later was sitting at work thinking how easy it would be to kill myself......... I was having suicidal thoughts...... a side effect of taking prozac (if you don't believe it check it out on the net)..... The doctors response was to double my dose!!!!

I got joined an online discussion group for depression sufferers and started doing some reading to understand why iI was feeling the way I was. That was of more benefit to me than prozac ever was.

I can understand your anger and feelings of revenge towards your attacker, it's natural. But you can turn that into something positive, instead of letting it drag you down into depression.

Hi,

Worked with people with problems in the past and I found many of them were on lots of different medication. I dont know the solution but taking so many drugs can only be good for the Pharma industry and not the patient IMO.
