Hi,

looking at return flights for next year march/april/may time from manchester and china airlines seems to be leading the way with the cheapest flights at around the £440 mark.

Has anyone every travelled with China? do the have an entertainment system on their planes?

cheers

China is a good budget airline that gets you there. They stand out in nothing beyond -- sometimes -- price. Yes, they have entertainment, but how good as always depends on the plane you get and the system that has been installed on it. ALWAYS take a book.

China Air sucks IMHO. Flew them once from SFO-BKK. There were 2 other farangs on the plane

and they put us all in the same row. No entertainment system (this was about 10 yrs ago),

their idea of a beverage was gving you some coke in a dixie cup. A total joke.

Never flown them again...

I used to be a gold member of their FF scheme and flew on the Amsterdam route with them all the time.

They are still using an old 747 on the Amsterdam route. The on-board entertainment is the movie projected onto the bulkhead and relayed round all the other small screens in the plane, very 1980's. The food was okay nothing special and enough drink service.

The timings are good, arriving early morning into Bangkok.

I stopped using them a couple of years ago when they started to cut the mileage they gave you with the cheap tickets. I now use Emirates via Dubai and actually enjoy the break during the journey now.

Best Regards

I've flown China Air (Taiwan) many times and while they can't come close to Singapore Air, they are better than JAL, IMHO. Nothing fancy, but they have always been on time and have always been willing to make any changes I desire and they do it with a smile, unlike to some of the others airlines.

I have been using China Airlines from Amsterdam for about 7 years, 3 trips a year.

They use 747-400 aircraft which are not actually that old although the cabin decor is a little dated, no personal TVs in economy.

However, the cabin crew are excellent and they are the only airline that seem to care about the state of the rest-rooms THROUGHOUT the flight in ALL classes.

On my first trip in economy I was very surprised to find that the toilet tissue was folded into triangles, the toilet spotlessly clean 8 hours into the flight.

Food and beverage service is good.

I have never been delayed by the airline, just the odd late passenger !

I now use their discounted business class, paying about £1200 return from Glasgow with KLM connections.

My g/f recently flew CHina Air from Orlando to BKK. She did not think very highly of the entertainment, food or service. I guess if you are on a tight budget none of that matters much as long as you get there. On her case the prices from Orlando where pricey and this flight was several hundred dollars cheaper. For my money I would pay a little bit more for a better experience but YMMV.

I have used them many times from Manchester using a KLM hop.

I always flew Biz Class and while it wasn't 'Club World' it was good enough and a reasonable price.

The early arrival and punctuality were good.

I must admit the attendants were 'lovely'....

Drunken English yobs who I think got an upgrade or industrial injury claim spoiled the flight though.

I was a gold member and flew almost exclusively with China Airlines. In terms of price it is usually them or Eva with the cheapest price. Unfortunately, I am not able to go often enough now to maintain gold membership. I did fly business class last time by using miles.

Flight attendants are friendly and nice looking. Their fleet is mostly modern. I will miss the Dynasty lounge.

I would definitely recommend them as an affordable airline.

Orlando? They don't fly to BKK from Orlando, do they? What airline did she use to make the connection on the West Coast?

I booked the ticket on China-air.com ORLANDO, FL to BKK

No they don't actually fly from Fl to BKK. They do sell the tickets and use a US carrier to get you to LA.

I don't recall who the carrier was from Fl to the west coast, but probably Delta.

I just looked it up and they use American Airlines from Orlando to LAX.

Flew China Air once… never again, SFO-TPE-BKK, old 747 with no AVOD, tight 31” pitch with old model seats and the cabin was kept WAY to warm. Service and food were average.

If you read the travel section one of the other Pattaya boards, you will find a poster who reminds everyone that China Air has one of the worst safety records in the past 20 years :clueless … your still safer than you are in your car driving to work.

Do you believe that clown's 3rd post,calling someone a racist & pig?

:behead Sorry, perhaps you can tell me how many posts i have to make before pointing out FACTS!!!!!! :devil

would i not be a clown if i had made as many posts as you???

People may choose to believe the post as it is true.

the poster henryski stated THOSE ARABS ARE PIGS!

i would call that a racist statement and therefore makes him racist.

i did not wish to upset anyone by pointing this out.

i did not call him a pig, i said MAYBE you are a pig, a lot of travellers are quite rude, especially when THEY are FOREIGNERS in a different country

sometimes without knowing or being aware of different customs, and ofen may caus offence without knowing it,

eg pointing with the foot in Thailand.

i did not mean to upset you or your friend and admit the spelling attack was unfair.

sorry but you have done it again,

to love a race of people because they are, in this case Thai, of a particular race/type/creed makes you a racist.

please explain to me why i should not therefore call you racist

please also tell me why you, the same as your friend you attack me for only making 3 posts.

why would you guess from only making 3 posts that i am watching pattaya clips etc etc dreaming etc etc mmmmmm allright

:grin-jump :grin-jump i truly do not see the connection, explanation possible????????????????? :grin-jump :grin

:devil PS you forgot to add transiting DUBAI in your globetrotting conquests :grin-jump

yes i guess it was Sir, and for that i apologise, i did not wish to be rude, especially as a new member to this forum.

i am sorry for that :grin-jump

i stand by the racist statement because to say Arabs are pigs is a racist statement in the same way as to say All Pakis smell would be.

yes they are ARABS but not necessarily PIGS!

:behead No Turbo sorry but saying the stewardesses on BA are up thier own arses does not qualify you, it just makes you observant :devil
