Mother's Day Fireworks

A few shots of the Mother's Day fireworks, taken from my window here in View Talay 1. Camera is a Panasonic Lumix TZ3.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Most pics were taken with a 15 second shutter speed. The three darker ones were taken with a 2 second shutter speed, just as an experiment. Unfortunately, this camera has no speed settings between 2 and 15 seconds that I can find.

Actually, I think a shutter speed between 5 and 10 seconds would have been better. At 15 seconds I found I ran the risk of having so many fireworks going off that it created just a blotch.

This was a great show !!! I watched it from the PBG and it just seemed to go on forever.

Actually, if I had my druthers I'd have selected a shutter speed closer to 5-10 seconds. It would have given good clarity but not left the shutter open so long that so many shells went off.

This was a great show !!! I watched it from the PBG and it just seemed to go on forever.

There were presentations from several countries, accounting for the pauses between shows. Unfortunately I arrived back home from Ayutthaya toward the end of it, accounting for why there aren't more pictures. You could see it from the highway on the way here though, very cool.

She was lucky, she didn't even try to use the special nightime or 'fireworks' options!

Mind you, there were cameras all around with the flash being utilized.......

Make sure that you look at the setup menu system before making up your mind. It's a bit obtuse as compared to, say, my Canon A1100IS. The 10x optical zoom is also great but makes the camera a bit heavy for a shirt pocket. In all, I'm glad I have both cameras. Edited August 18, 2010 by Bruce Mangosteen

Well she did okay..... but certainly no tripod, just holding the camera up in the air above her head like the rest of them!

Given the 1/40 sec shutter speed she wouldn't have needed a tripod unless you and she were ...erm... multitasking. She would have needed it in "nighttime" or "fireworks" mode though.

Not much chance of that.....LOL.

Norton warned me repeatedly that the Photobucket site is unsafe.

It listed the virus it was trying to infect with - something called the Bloodhound Exploit 281.

I decided to stay away from the site after the warning.

Those who have been there may want to check their machines for nasties.

I use Norton on two machines and have no such issues. Here is the description of the warning from Symantec:

Bloodhound.Exploit.281 is a heuristic detection for files attempting to exploit the Microsoft GDI+ GIF File Parsing Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (BID 31020).

 

Note: Virus definitions dated October 13, 2009 or earlier detect this threat as Trojan.Giframe.

 

I would say that the infection is not in the Photobucket site itself, but was present in one or more GIF files you clicked on at some point.

 

Just curious: You obviously opened this thread. Did you load the images? If so, did you get the warning?

Best fireworks shows that I've ever seen, lasted nearly 2 hours. Had a great seat right in front of one of the barges about 250 meters away at the Chang Beer seating area as a Thai family saw me and my TGF standing nearby and offered up a couple of seats at their table along with some beer and food. They were happy when I ordered a pitcher of beer later in the show. The entire beach area was packed as many Thais came from out of town to watch the show.

Yes, I opened two of the images - and got the same warning both times. Upon which I decided that maybe it was not an error made by Norton.

Do you update definitions regularly? Mine are. And I am using Norton 360, which has all sorts of apps bundled into it.
