After recent dentist visits here at home in Australia, I have decided I need to bite the bullet and get porcelin veneers. My main 6 top teeth are eventually going to need a lot of surface fillings from surface wear, and fillings from chipping and wear on the ends. Rather go through these fillings which will have no guarantee and cost a decent amount of money I have been looking into these veneers.

So my question is, has anyone had these done in Pattaya or does anyone know of a decent dentist in Pattaya that does these, if so would you know an approx cost per tooth? Many people recommend Dr Aree (sp?) at Pattaya International Hospital Soi 4 for dental work, any idea if she would do this procedure? I certainly travel to LOS enough to have regular check ups etc after I get them done.

I know there are many flash looking clinics around town and in the new shopping centres but I would rather a recommended dentist to do this work rather than getting in done in a clinic that may not be there in 6 months time.

The cost in Australia is approx $1000AU per tooth, so I am just trying to get an idea of cost in Thailand. I will at a very minimum visit Dr Aree for a check up on my next visit and sound her out.

Also, if anyone has had these veneers done regardless of where the procedure was done, are you happy with the result, would you recommend it?

Thanks for any advice.

Edit...Just noticed some years ago bm kuranda_bagman had some similar work done, if you happen to read this how is the work on your teeth now, still going strong?

I had an associate in Iraq get it done in 2008

I saw the results, nothing short of fantastic

He had a front tooth done and I think his cost was $250-300 USD for the veneer

Thats quite good as a tooth in the UK around £250 per tooth

In the usa you are looking at 1200-2200 per tooth, especially if they are doing any gum re-contouring or other work, so 250 in the uk sounds great. I don't know about the costs in thailand but I'm sure it is cheap. Keep in mind that veneers are not "fast" they have to grind down your teeth then make molds of the stubs. Then they design a porcelain tooth around the original mold, and finally you go back in and they glue it in place. Be ready for another hour or two worth of grinding at this point if it isn't perfect ( it rarely is).

This process is not a single day setup, give you and the doctor AT LEAST 3 days, possibly more. Thailand is strange and wonderful though, so who knows. But much like a cheap suit, this is not a place to rush. So depending on your drinking and frolicking, you might want to consider that there is a chance you might have to keep out of it for a few days.

Also you will have lots of fresh cuts in your mouth. Probably not the best time to dive into some pussy head first

BTW: MAKE SURE you are talking to the doc about veneers and not Bonding. Two very different things. One requires the grinding down then putting on a pre-made veneer, the other is kind of like adding putty to your tooth. Veneers are vastly better longterm.

I had similar problems with my teeth(5 front upper). I went with crowns ,done by Dr Aree 3 years ago ,she did a fantastic job, still as good as the day she did them.Did them on my 2 week vacation. The price depends on the quality of the gold used in the crowns,my qoute was from 45000 -72000 baht. Your best bet is make an appointment with Dr Aree and decide what you want.

Greg,

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure and check them out, great to get an idea on prices.

oblong,

Thanks for the price comparison. I have certainly found plenty of info on the veneers, both from my dentist here in Aus and learning info from the net, I understand it is a bit of a process over days but I'm sure it will be worth the effort. I will certainly be getting the ceramic veneers, bit worried about the whole grinding process though.

Thanks nariad,

I will check out Dr Aree to see what she offers, everyone who I've spoken to says she is fantastic. Great to hear her work is still going well and you were happy with the results.

Thanks Villa,

They seem much more reasonably priced in the UK compared to Aus.

Same here – Previously I’d been down the veneer track in Australia with limited success – Went to Dr Aree about 4 years ago and have never regretted it – Started off by getting 4 of my top front teeth crowned (8,000bt each) - Fantastic job and still perfect today. Since then I have had 2 triple bridge crowns and 4 rear molar crowns. Dr Aree is the best dentist I have ever been to and I have never experienced any problems from her work. Unfortunately you may not be able to get an appointment with her as she told me earlier in the year that she now only works part time and doesn’t really want to take on new patients. However, in saying that the other dentists at PIH are also reputed to be on a par with her skills.

Thanks for the info kuranda_bagman,

Dr Aree certainly sounds like she does quality work, I'm glad all the work you had done is still going well. I will try and get an appointment with her or another dentist at the PIH for an opinion on what work best applies to me.

It certainly seems I can get quality work done in Thailand for a lot less than what it costs in Aus, sounds really good to me.

Once again thanks for everyones advice, I will report back when I manage to have any work done.

The worst part of the grinding, besides the time, is the smell. Even with exhaust fans you can't get the smell of burning tooth out of your nose :chogdee

The shots suck as well, because you have to be numbed down for it. Not a big deal, but just be prepared.

Oh and bring an ipod, they are going to be in there for a while :)

A couple of years ago I had a full veneer crown for one of my front teeth. Was around 10000bht (this included an xray and a couple of other things).

I think they are called B K Dental it is on Soi Buckhaow in between soi lk and soi diana on the same side as the hole in the wall restaurant.

I was very impressed and would use them again.

I've been thinking about visiting this place myself for a long time, although heard a lot of praise about the place I haven't seen any prices posted anywhere!? :devil

Being a bit out of Pattaya center is it cheaper than in town?

  • 9 months later...

I thought I would just finish off my own question with a follow up on the dental work I had done.

Thanks to the bm's who gave advice and messaged me.

I had my work done by Dr Aree at the PIH Soi 4.

Appointments can be made with Dr Aree via email picpih@loxinfo.co.th or picpih@pih-inter.com, she will give you her personal email after your first visit. Since I was in town for a month I dropped into the PIH in January to make a booking for my first visit, and get advice on what work needed to be done. I was able to get an appointment with Dr Aree a few days after my initial visit.

As reported Dr Aree is a really lovely lady, sings whilst she is working and makes you feel totally at ease.

My first visit was just a check up, teeth clean and discussion on my options for veneers, fillings or crowns. I had an x-ray done which showed the condition of my teeth under the gum line and roots, from there Dr Aree can advise on what work can or cannot be done.

Dr Aree told me my dentist in Australia would be mad to try and do veneers on my teeth because of my bite, she said the veneers would not last and my dentist should have not recommended me to go with this procedure. She recommended I either have my teeth fixed with front fillings which is quite cheap compared to Australia or go with six crowns. I wanted a permanent fix so decided on the crowns.

I emailed Dr Aree before my next trip to Pattaya in April and set up an appointment to start the crown work. She advised me I would need a 4 hour booking firstly to prepare my teeth, make a temporary set of crowns and do impressions, followed up by a 2 hour booking to fit the new crowns. The first visit is where Dr Aree basically grinds back your teeth to make almost pegs for the new crowns to fit over. I was a bit nervous on how painful this would be and a 4 hour session in a dental chair didn't sound at all good. I certainly didn't need to worry, it was not painful at all, Dr Aree explained everything she was doing and the time actually seemed to fly along. I left my first visit with a set of temporary crowns which stayed on for 1 week whilst my new crowns were being made.

A week later on my next visit Dr Aree removed my temporary crowns and attached my new crowns. She explained that she has all her crowns made in Bangkok as the company who do them in Pattaya is slightly cheaper but isn't up to her standard. Having them made in Bangkok she fully guarantees them for 2 years. The fittitng was really easy, she didn't have to make any adjustments, basically just a matter of cementing them in.

I am certainly happy with Dr Aree's work, my new teeth have no sensitivity issues and I have a much better bite now.

The costs of my crown work are as follows.

Initial visit and x-ray 900 baht.

First crown work visit 30200 baht.

Second crown work visit 30200 baht.

The total of 61,300 baht worked out to be $1926 AUD on conversion via my Amex card. I was quoted $500 per tooth for fillings, $1100 per tooth for venners, and $1700 per tooth for crowns by my dentist here in Australia.

I am sure someone will post that I could have had my work done cheaper at another dentist or clinic, and I am sure that is true. I can only highly recommend Dr Aree and her quality of work.
