How did you first discover Thailand?

Recommended Posts

After my second divorce I was looking for a trip to Cuba. I telephoned a mate who was on his way over to see a South African girl he'd met and in her absence had been faithful to for 15 months. She was working in New Zealand. He stopped over in BKK and it was his first day there when I called him.

"Hi Lad how's BKK?'

" A Shit-hole........ A sewer with 15 millon people living on it. It stinks and I can't wait to get out."......... He continued along the same lines and developed his theme for 15 emphatic minutes. I was left in no doubt that Thailand was a place to avoid at all costs.

Called him the next day.

'You still in BKK?'

"Yeah...........It's.......it's....... Heaven mate......You gotta get out here Lad.....I met a girl in World Trade yesterday.....skin like marble, the softest longest black hair........" You know the rest.

He continued his journey to NZ had an argument with the love of his life and flew back to BKK 24 hrs later.

I shelved Cuba.

Someone I met from work knew I was ok with P4P and after a few times of us driving to mexico, he suggested I try Thailand. You would love it there, he'd tell me . As an American, my first thoughts where, third world country, unpaved dirt/rocky roads and scanky, T.B., HIV, Clap, chicks with dicks and everything else. I think it was a video on youtube that changed my mind. Also, I had a talk with a co-worker who was born in Thailand. He told me everything like, make should to take time to enjoy the great foods and thais are some of the most friendly people. With that, I booked my trip but unfortunately it was postponed due to the takeover of the airport a few years back. I believe I ended up going two months later. And since, Ive seen, Bangkok, Ko Samui, Phuket and of course Pattaya. Many on this site dont speak highly of Phuket but I had a good time.

I first heard about Thailand when I was stationed in Viet Nam back in 1971, but never made it. I got divorced in Dec 04 and went to work in Kuwait in Mar 05. Listened to the many stories of guys that spent their vacations in BKK and Patts and Phuket and it finally whetted my appetite. I made my first trip with my buddy who was in Kuwait with me the end of Oct 07. We got introduced to the Rideher Cup, which the Americans won that year, no thanks to us....LOL The rest is history and after 8 trips I hope to be retiring to Thailand in the very near future. I will be living in my TGF's village and after spending time there on my last trip, I think I will love it. It is nice and quiet and I have met aa couple of guys (1 from Wales and the other from Germany) with Thai wives, so already know someone to speak English with. Then there is Dr. Mick in Khon Kaen to go and visit as it is only 200km from where I will be living. All in all, I am really looking forward to this and thanks to all the guys I knew in Kuwait that whetted my appetite for all the pleasures of Thailand.

The first time I heard of Thailand as a P4P paradise was in Playboy magazine back in the 1970's. The article about exotic P4P spots had a line I never forgot: "If you can't get laid out of the coffee shop at the Grace Hotel, you can't get laid anywhere in the world."

While I working in Taipei in 1979, I met a lot of U.S. ex-military who told me more about Bangkok and Pattaya. I decided to pay Thailand a visit and my first trip was in September of 1979.

I live 2hrs+ flight away but my first thai trip was a 24hr bus ride into Hadyai many many years ago - early 80's?

First mongering trip was phuket late 80s when a few friends decided to go after signing off our merchant vessel about the same time. We tried to call another friend but his family picked up the phone (these were days just before the mobile phones appeared) and said he went to Bangkok. My first thought was 'what the fuck is he doing there!'. Years later , a thai girl I met in Phuket met me in Bangkok and show me Nana Plaza and I said to myself - 'Now I know what the fucker was doing here!' hahahaa

Later , I brought a few friends to Nana plaza - one was a '40 year old virgin' and the other just needed to see the rest of the world! My first words to them at the enternce of Nana Plaza was 'welcome to my playground!'

After a few years , I keep hearing about the seaside town of Pattaya and back the they had these dance contest between Bangkok and Pattaya. I made it a point to see one and this particular one was in Carousel. Met the mamasan and still friends with her till this day. Have been on regular trips , at least twice a years since then.
