A couple of friends and i decided to test the new crossing lights on Beach road last night, After pressing the button, the countdown started, when the lights were red we started to cross, two Baht busses had stopped and we managed to avoid the few motorcycles who took no notice of the lights, then a ferang in a pick-up started sounding his horn aggressively at us for being in the road. :clueless

Wonder how long before the stats start getting posted on those killed and injured on these new crossings, better not be me listed in one of them

To be honest, the ones on the beach rd seem to work pretty well. (traffic is hardly moving anyhow), I am pleasantly surprised.

Other than beach rd whether they are obeyed or ignored seems to be a bit random... and have become the usual game of chicken and might has right you see at other junctions. As a footsoldier, you have little might....

Crossings or not I'll still obey the old Pattaya adage "look four ways when crossing a one way street" i.e. 2nd Road. :kissing

It's sort of a lose-lose for pedestrians. Now that they have the ped crossings, drivers feel quite justified in honking and nearly running down people crossing outside them, while at the same time, not stopping for them when the peds have a green light.

It's going to take a while to get working.

I do note that when, and if, the lights are obeyed, it's going to worsen the traffic flow immensely, all over town where they are installed.
