Trainspotting

John Hodge

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose life.

I'm sure many people in the Uk are familiar with this………But forgive me, living in Thailand, I wasn't….. Today I entered another youtube wormhole and came across it.   I'm not sure why I filled up

I'd read all of Irvine Welsh's books (I don't read books) and I was watching the opening ceremony for the London Olympics and commented that I thought it was a load of bollox. My Sister told me it was directed by Danny Boyle, the same guy that directed the movie Trainspotting. I looked him up on IMDB and fuck me if he hasn't directed some of my favourite alltime movies. He also said that Apocalypse Now was one of his fave movies. Same same me.

Shit sound quality because the Nobs keep blocking posters but you should buy the DVD or BR and check it out.

One of the best movie scenes ever.

HTF did those Vietnamese kick your ass? Bring on the Drones. Another abomination in the history of the USA.....

Yes a great movie as originally shown but I can't recommend the redux version.

Platoon and Full Metal Jacket are my other two faves about the Vietnam War

As to the last point....we still have not learned that if you fight a war you must fight to destroy the enemy. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, nation building...all no win situations imho. Imperial wars, so to speak.

Apologies for the political ramblings in my last post. Not the place but you know how it gets when you're imbibing and listening to music...

What's up with the redux of AN?

Platoon and Full Metal Jacket both great movies. Anything like your real life experiences as a Vet?

Excellent one-man rendition of the song.

In keeping with the season……...

This love it or hate song was a No 1 hit 40 years ago………Re-released every Xmas through the 80's and 90's and then since the mid 00's.

It's the biggest selling Christmas song when counting air-play, jukes boxes and everything else……..

I hated it……but it's starting to grow on me.

Papps, did you have trousers like that???

Opps i didn't watch it 'till the end before posting……….I just have. I should have guessed Santa would appear.
