I live in the South West UK and am about to book my flight, but this time I would like to try out the new A380.

Cost is not so much of an issue although will be travelling economy and not to bothered where I am flying from, so anywhere from Manchester to Gatwick would be OK.

Which airline would I have to book with and where from to guarantee the A380?

Cheers

Emirates, Qantas, Air France have the 380, well Air France has one less today after running over a little jet at JFK yesterday. Just go to Wikipedia and look up the 380 and there will be a list of who has them. Frankly for coach it is smarter to look for who has the best legroom as steerage on a 380 just means more idiots packed like sardines. Excluding you, I meant the scores of ignorant rubes you'll share your wee space with.

The OP specifically stated from UK to BKK - only Emirates fly the A380 to BKK. Flying with SQ would require a change of aircraft in Singapore.

Not quite true - the seats on Emirates A380 are wider than those fitted in their high-density 777s.

Thanks guys,

So Emirates from Manchester is the only option from the UK.

I suppose I could fly to mainland Europe and then on to BKK, at least that would open up more opportunity if I am that desperate to fly it (other airlines)?

Emirates now have two A380 flights daily from Heathrow to Dubai and at least one daily A380 flight Dubai to Bangkok (and returns of course). Heathrow will give you the best choice with Emirates. (Did it myself about 18 months ago - 4 x A380 flights, well worth it). :whistling:

Cheers,

Found them, brilliant that was what I was looking for. Not on every flight but now I can choose them.

Thanks

I was looking at Emirates as a Bangkok - Manchester option. On their webpage I could pick from a selection of flights many of which included the A380, but for some reason I had better options when I did my search by schedule. Using price I often brought up long layovers in Dubai, and fewer A380 options.

Sadly I think I will go with Qatar as Emirates is too much of a price premium.....

Manchester should also have two A380 daily later this year. Expected evening flight to change from 777-300ER to A380 in September/October.

I think the current A380 from/to MAN provides connections from/to the DXB-BKK-HKG-BKK-DXB A380. IMO, it isn't worth getting the A380 on one leg if the next leg is on a high-density 777.

From Manchester EK018 (A380) should connect with EK385 (A380)

From Bangkok EK384 (A380) should connect with EK017 (A380)

Layovers in Dubai around 3 hours. Expect to pay extra for A380 flights.

If you want to experience the A380 at its best, why not book business class just from Dubai, it is so nice to be able to stand at the bar chatting to fellow passengers, you also have a lie flat bed (seat) i fly Emirates from Birmingham but you could fly from your local airport.

Have looked at buissines class before but found it to be too expensive. I would have to do the whole lot business class to make it worthwhile.

Have looked but what would be considered a bargain for B Class? Prices at the moment £2600 return B Class both ways!

Thanks guys for the input.

Try Oman Air ex Heathrow who have business class for £1476 - 14.40hrs out / 16.00hrs in.

Heathrow/Muscat A330-300

Muscat / Bangkok A330-200

Even EvaAir (direct) from Heathrow have business class for £1500 (Bargain)

The Oman Air Biz Class is a bargain. It's probably one of the best business class products around.

I also looked at Biz Class on Emirates from Bangkok to UK.

It was about 119,000 baht and did include a few legs on the A380.

That's £2400 and a bit rich for me...

Qatar is cheaper at about 102,000 baht/£2100. I have been told better Biz Class prices are available Ex UK on Eva, you have to stay away from School Holidays.
