Does anyone go metal detecting at Pattaya beach?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am planning my first trip to Pattaya, and was wondering if looking for coins and jewelry with a metal detector on the beach is permissable in Thailand?  It would be nice to try my favorite hobby in another country.  Thanks for any replys and suggestions.  M_H

Another MD freak eh ? Ive got detecting permission on most of the farms round my area in the UK, which include 4 Bronze Age sites and 3 Roman Villa's, one of which was discovered my me. I use an XLT, and have a PI machine but just cant get into Beach detecting.

I take back the above statement as ive since taken my medication.im sure metal detecting amongst consenting adults is something that should be encouraged not laughed at.I cannot imagine a more interesting or worthwhile activity while in pattaya than a spot of MD.and you can quote me on that.

I feel a few hours under the old pier should bring to the surface some wonderfull ancient bolts, nuts, fishhooks, nails and spent cartridge cases.

Next june im going to pattaya beach and bury metal objects that say "get a life"on them.

No it should read 'get a detector' on them.

Local chap near me recently got awarded 250,000 for some Roman Statuettes he found.

I do realise Detecting is banned in Ireland as people there couldnt work out how to turn the detectors on, though I hear someone is trying to finalise details for a Potato detector

Ha ha brilliant crackpot!a fucking potato joke!I havent heard anything like that in years.and so funny as well!

Well I've heard the 'get a life' jibe a million times too.

Problem is, though Metal Detecting might look daft, its remarkeably relaxing, quite good exercise and VERY profitable if you get the right sites.. I've had my detector paid for 10 times over with the things Ive found. One gold Roman ring netted me 1K.

I wont touch beaches though, I prefer just wandering around fields

Hi there Mike.

Just a word of caution.   The beach at south Ptty  is a favorite hangout for katoeys come the evening.

If they say to you,  "that's a big one",  they're not on about your metal detector!

I bought an XLT last year.It cost me over 500 quid. All I've found with it is an old penny,a bullet and a dog tag that says 'lucky'.

It's in a box in the loft now.

Am I doing something wrong?

90% of detecting is research

9% is fieldwalking

1% is detecting

Ive got an XLT as well. Bought it when they first came out and wouldnt part with it.

What part of the country are you in ??

Me thinks I better take my medication, I don't believe I've read all this. You don't see many guys with metal detectors in Australia. When you do they are mainly all Poms with silver foil wrapped around their heads to stop the radio waves. Anyway the oldest thing you will find here is maybe a convict chain a couple of hundred years old. Maybe the Poms are just looking for signs of long lost relatives.

As for LOS, fucked if I know ??? ??? ??? :-/

I enjoy helping the locals  dig up those small muscles on the water edge, if any thing of value on beach they would be spending 2 hours looking for it, not just a seafood stew.  :D

On my last trip to OZ and Bondi beach, I cleaned up around $70 in cash and 2 rings valued together at around $400AU

My friend used his detector and me ? I used a Tennis racquet, yep a good old tennis racquette. Just dig it into the sand and let the sand fall through.

Who's laughing. Its relaxing and with a few beers quite enjoyable
