I'm going to be visiting Bangkok and Pattaya for the first time this January.  I'm interested in taking some Thai cooking classes during the day.  Does anyone have any recommendations of where to take them or where I can find more information about them?  Thanks!

This legendary hotel on the bank of the Chao Phraya opened its own Thai cooking school on the other side of the river a few years back. Classes start off with some background on Thai cooking, followed by different cooking techniques and fruit and vegetable carving. Recipes are a blend of the traditional and the imaginative. Menu preparation and selection is included in the course, as well as how to order at Thai restaurants. Classes take place from 9 in the morning to noon, followed by lunch. Tuition is charged per class. The school is closed on April 12-15, 1999 for traditional New Year holiday.

Amazing the data Crackpot has access to  ;D  I'd ask him where Hoffa is buried but I'm afraid he would KNOW.  ;)

warning, they all try to give you a mortor and pestle as souvineer.  After 4 classes you got 4 of them.  Try hauling THAT home.

Actually, I know nothing of the BKK schools.  Maybe they don't do that.  I do know Chiang Mai is  a great place for this too.  If you travel that way I will get some names of schools for you.

Have fun.

I obtained that data after a 20 second Google search.

I did already know several of them but the website I found gave all the info better than I could.

However, I neither know where Hoffa is buried or even who she is ( nor do I care)

Hoffa is not a she.  Jimmy Hoffa was the president of the Teamsters in the 1960s.  He disappeared under mysterious circumstances and has never been found.  Mafia ties and or the Kennedys are suspected of having him removed.

It is a running joke here as to where is Hoffa.

Hoffa disappeared in the mid 70's, so if it was the Kennedy's it was Ted or one of the sister.

abcd,

I've never looked into it, but I saw an ad for a Thai cooking class in Pattaya.  School is located on 3rd Rd next to the Pattaya driving range.  phone: 038-370-877.

Emil,

OK.  70s.   ALl the same through my dim memories. ;D

BTW, the cooking school on 3rd Road is called, errr, damn it.  I can't remember.  I only eat there 3 times a week when I'm in town.

The place next door t o the golf driving range near Pattaya Nua.  Excellent food and per a friend who took classes there good at  that too.

What I like about the place is they do Chiang Mai cooking which is my favorite.  Nothing like a properly done Khao Soi.  MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

OH OH, I go it.  The name of the place is Aung Kam.  Hey, I guess those warnings about drug use and  brain damage are all lies eh?   [smiley=Eyecrazy.gif]

Jimmy,

Thanks for the heads up on Aung Kam.  I thought this place was strictly a school and not a restaurant.  On my next trip I'm going to check out 2 new places to stay that are not to far from there and will give it a try.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I'm in Thailand now, and Pattaya to be exact.  I never made it to one of the cooking schools in Bangkok since I met up with a Thai girl who I hung out with all the time.  I'm going to try and check out the Aung Kan place this week while in Pattaya.  I'll let you know how it goes if I make it there!
