Seen him yesterday and again today.it really is a sad sight and I would like to know the story about him, I followed him and I was convinced it was a Thai from behind until I passed him and got a better look, looks like a guy late 30,s filthy shirt on its hard to tell what colur is was originually, dirty shorts that were in shreds and just one shoe..looks like he hasn`t` washed in years, absolutely filthy from head to toe, surely this guy doesn`t` have a visa, looks like the lure of Pattaya took a heavy toll on this guy.

I think he is more likely to be a guy that has failed in his own country due to mental health problems and Thailand is his last resort, as opposed to being taken into psychiatric care.   I have see

There's been some discussion (and pics) of this man on Stickman's site and a few Pattaya boards. He's is said to be a German who used to work for a German company in Bangkok. He obviously has severe mental problems, but he doesn't appear to beg or drink alcohol. Supposedly he also declines all offers of help.

I can't remember ever seeing a homeless person in the U.S. or Europe who looked as rough as this poor guy. Probably the only chance he has for turning his life around would be if the German embassy got involved, assuming he is German. Somehow, someone in authority has to intervene and get him cleaned up to the point he can be sent back to his own country for treatment.

It can be very difficult to help someone who does not want to be helped!

In his own country he could maybe be sectioned under the mental health act where he could be assessed and treated, however this is Thailand. If he were to be brought to the attention of the authorities here he may find himself locked up as a criminal for a long time.

I remember a thread on the board some time ago about an Englishman with mental health problems who was found sleeping under a car in Jomtien and taken into custody by the BIB. Now it seems they did not know what to do with him other than to throw him in a cell! Somehow a photo of this man naked in his cell looking beaten and in general poor health, appeared on a Pattaya forum and was seen by a female American writer(I think that`s what she was). She took pity on his plight and went to the police to speak on his behalf and seek the medical attention he required. He subsequently made a full recovery and it transpired he was actually a wealthy man.

Had this good lady samaritan not come to his aid I shudder to think what would have become of him. I hope this "farang tramp" is equally fortunate. :thumbup

I spoke to him the other night and he would not tell me where he was from, just that he was from Europe but understood me speaking English to him. I gave him a cigarette and 20 baht and took my leave. I certainly was not about to bung him a 'few quid'.

The reason that he is permitted to wander the streets around LK metro, according to one bargirl is that the police consider him too filthy to have in the police station or the monkey house!

If he is not on overstay, then it is probably nothing that can be done. But if he is, why have the Thai or tourist police not determined his nationality and then alerted his embassy?

This is the bit from Stickman a week or two ago

Crazy-German-Pattaya.jpg

“The homeless farang whose photo appeared in this column a month or two back and who has been a regular fixture on Sukhumvit is still homeless and looks worse for wear. It turns out his name is Michael, and he is indeed a German national who I am informed was once a sales rep for the manufacturer of two of Germany's finest products, Erdinger and Warsteiner. Wearing the very same clothes I first photographed him in way back in the middle of March, he is as filthy as ever. Until earlier this week, if you happened to be anywhere near Cowboy or Nana you may have spotted him, perhaps sitting outside a convenience store drinking a hot coffee, or perhaps curled up next to some of the homeless Thais for whom Sukhumvit is home. But you won't see him there now. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw him this week on Soi LK Metro, down in Pattaya! He was in a long conversation with himself, in English, holding his pants up with one hand, as appears to be his trademark. He was pointing at various people with his free hand at which point he saw the camera pointing right at him....and came bounding towards me. Time to do the Johnny bolt! Seeing a grin on his face, I decided to stick around and he wasn't hostile at all. He started telling me about the history of Kassikornbank and how it was once called Thai Farmers Bank. He then asked me, in English with a heavy German accent, if he thought they sold coffee inside. Ever the devil, I told him that the only way to know was to go inside and ask the staff....which he did. I didn't wait to see what happened and left him to his new friends in green uniforms. But the big question is, just how did he manage to make it from Bangkok to Pattaya? This guy really is in a bad state and if anyone from the German embassy is reading, he needs your help!”

I’m just glad I didn’t have to sit next to him on the bus.

I was crossing the road near Tukcom last week and he was on the footpath that I was trying to get to. He proceeded to start throwing cigarette butts at me and started shouting abuse in German I think, so he is not always polite. Clearly mad as a brush.

You can get quite irritable when you quit smoking.

There is or was also a young (30-ish) drunk farang woman wandering around the Beach RD area showing her tits,

that I saw several times during my trip this year.

Last time I saw her she was on the back of a BiB pickup truck!
