Lab Tests Current Prices and Services

Recommended Posts

I have to get lab tests from time to time regardless of where I am so I wrote to PMH since it is aimed at tourists and is located centrally vs. in Naklua.

Under the nom de plume of Randolph Scott they told me this. Prices appear OK and turnaround time other than quite advanced Chlamydia tests is an hour if something itches or burns. Hospital labs are to me, better quality than doctor office labs.

They will produce results in English and Thai and have translators. The lab is open 24/7 as well. Of course asking for the cost of all these tests means Randolph ain't likely to get a date with Gloria soon. :whistling:

Notes: VDRL is the test for Syphilis. INR and PTT are for blood clotting time. I had a vasectomy so I was curious of the cost of a post-vasectomy sperm test. Free here in Canada, $8.00 in Managua and $20 in Pattaya. You can get a girl to help collect the samples. The last time I told my now ex-GF there had to be three samples in the vial. The lab reported an unusually large amount vs. normal but I didn't show her that part.

Dear Mr. Scott,

Thanks for the info but hope I don't need to use it.

Found a better deal and faster, too, while you wait, actually.

Lifecare Labs off of 3rd Road, between the overpass and Soi 17, closer to Soi 17 I guess. Look for the Laundry Express sign on the building on the corner, it is in 1/4 block on the right coming from 3rd road. After the little Soi, if you're heading away from the overpass there's one more street then a traffic light which I think is Soi 17. It goes down to where you can pick up the road to Tuk.com, anyway.

Express HIV 350 Baht, today for the TG it was while we waited. VDRL was 100 extra, same wait time. That covers the big two anyway.

They have a package deal for HIV 1/2, VDRL, Hep B, Gonhorrea and Chlamydia and something they call vital signs, no idea what that is, 600 Baht. One hour . Note for G and C they need to swab your unit (or your girl's) to get a smear. I presume a guy does guys, the lady does ladies. Or you do it in the bathroom. I didn't since the cost of the tests is more than the two pills to cure the problems.

Anyway for a fast STI screening $20 is pretty hard to beat. You can give them any name you want if you're worried.

Two pills? Two different pills or two of the same pill? I'd thank you for the name of the pill?

The only treatment for Chlamydia is one gram of Azithromycin also known as Zithromax. Of course you take it and your partner must as well.

Gonhorrea is one oral dose of Cefixime aka Suprax, 400 mg or an intramuscular injection of Ceftriaxone 125 mg. Frankly if there was a doctor nearby diagnosing things I'd insist on the Cetriaxone at the time for the speed of delivery and because I don't scream like a girl at needles (many do).

Note if someone is diagnosed with Gonhorrea the treatment ALWAYS adds Azithromycin as there is a high probability of coinfection with Chlyamydia, not necessarily vice-versa.

In either case these are antibiotics you want to get at a hospital or Boots and not Wun Hung Low's street pharmacy to avoid fakes.

I carry these with me (along with a suite of antibiotics and a Sanford guide) for all emergencies, like skin or bladder infections. I get my GP to pre-precribe them based on my having the guide and knowing more or less the symptoms. I told him , please give me Cefixime and Zithromax in case I get Gonhorrea or Chlamydia, and he said well use a safe and I understand they break etc., so sure, here's both. Most people won't have this type of relationship with their GP.

If you aren't shy to test for both is a Q-tip up the piss tube and a smear and exam which is 15 minutes so in that case the 700 Bht package covers all the bases for you and you won't be taking pills if negative.

I didn't get the package also as it includes Hep B antibodies which I'd test positive for anyway having been vaccinated and thus getting them in your system (which is how vaccinations work). If I thought I had HBV, unlikely, then the tests are quite different as the antibody test is not proving anything.

After they faked an HiV test I had my lady take I will never use them again

When did this happen? I ask because some guys from the PMH came and did a presentation at the Pattaya Expats Club and I got the impression they were changing (for the better)the place to compete with the other main hospitals (PIH, BPH). Prior I had always regarded it as a treatment centre for Thai guys who had been shot, more often than not leaving there feet first.

Hi Randolph Scott

'Vital signs' I believe is just weight to height.....temperature...blood pressure.

Thanks for the info. I check for HIV pretty regularly....July 9th being the latest. My 'on off' GF badly wants a baby......Might go for a "Gregory" of my sperm count. That's if she leaves me any to check!

I guess it's about 6 years now.
