Has anyone got any ideas how to get rid of cats living on or in my roof every night.

They are keeping me awake every night banging and crashing and fighting above my bedroom ceiling.

I know its cats because i went out in the garden with a torch the other night and saw them.

Can i buy a live trap here so i could relocate them?otherwise its rat poison.Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks

My cat used to go up in my roof cavity... likely yours are if you hear them so much.

I had that insulation spray foam put in which at the same time closed off the places where she squeezed in, now I just have tookays!

You need to close off the places where they get in..... I don't think cats will take rat poison, but you will need that when you get rid of the cats.

I did think of the spray foam as my next door neighbour has had it done. How much does it cost Jacko?Does it make any difference to the temperature inside your house?

Also i was going to crush the rat poison up in some Tuna.Got plenty in the cupboard.Didnt really want to do that but im not spending everynight being woken up by them.

We had the same problem with a cat that used our roof space to have her kittens in. I waited and watched where she was getting access then when she and all the kittens were out I nailed some thin metal sheeting to stop them regaining access, quick and cheap and no effect on temperature in roof space.

Pay a visit to the Tiger Zoo and ask a zoo keeper for a bag of Tiger shit. Place that on the roof and no cats will come near the place. You can also buy cat deterrents which have a high pitched tone that cats don't like

I had two cats hanging about one time, so i fed them a little bit, enough for them to let me pick them up, i then put them in the back of my "top up" back of the truck, drove about 30 miles away and let them go. Never saw them again.

Maybe you misunderstand how the cat devices work. When you turn them on first, cats don't go scattering in all directions to escape. Cats are territorial and have territories that they patrol regularly. they dislike the high pitch noise so over time change their route to avoid it. cat deterrent works but may take a few weeks to deter cats taht are established, but any new cats will not then move in.

I had cats using my yard for a toilet. It stunk to high hell. After I got Rocky, they all went away.

Better Rocky than Bullwinkle.

Did you read lovedog's trip report about life with Rocky (among other things)?

I'd have taken the cats over the dog.

Invite a Vietnamese restaurateur to sleep in the attic.

I paid about 80k, but I have quite a big place... all depends on the roof area.

I see a lot of benefit with heat in the house and reduced noise..... (plus if you have any rain leaks it often fixes those too). I regard it as a lot of money to spend, but when I went up there prior to installing it and realised that there was just a false ceiling between me and that temperature I thought it worthwhile. Mind you, I also had double glazing put in too and that cost a lot.

I had similar thoughts about neighbour's dogs in my old house..... you know they would have them come shit in-front of my house!

Can you get up into your roof-space, removing a festering dead cat sounds like fun!

Havnt heard anything now for a couple of nights.Think ive dealt with it.Didnt poison them.Looks like the cats are gonna live to fight another day.

In my old house stray cats got into the habit of coming in and helping themselves to my pet's food, which I kept at the back of the house. They could just climb in past the security bars at the open Thai kitchen at the back. Later I blocked that access off using some screening perspex, and that green plastic fencing, up to the roof. That made it a bit of a trap back there and the cheeky buggers just started coming in from the front and walking down the side as if they owned the place.

I took to sitting and watching for one to go back there.....then I would sneak out, grab my hose and follow it back there and give it a good drenching.

Haven't had so much fun since!

I think it is a horrible thing to poison any animal. There are always better ways to deal with them. I have shot my share of cats but a bullet in the head is much more humane than a painful poison death. And yes, I know a bullet in the head is not an option here.

Didnt want to poison them, but when your not getting any sleep night after night you will do anything.
