If you are in town and want to try some really delicious thai food , at a very reasonable cost ,try eating at my gf mothers cafe just off soi buakhao.

I can truly recommend it . She speaks good english, and the menu is in english and thai . Dishes range from 30 to 45 baht

try her chicken noodle soop, or cow pat gow (not sure spelling). Lots of cracking bar girls eat there too. I eat there every day (yes i did pay ).

She only cooks thai food , and can cook northern issan food as well.

Her name is Pon , just tell her whot you like to eat , and she can cook it . I know i'ts a big plug gut the food is good.

Directions = At the top of soi diana turn left into soi buakao, then continue on soi buakhao, till you see the sign for dream teen massage, turn right down there, you will see a sign on the right with a number "49" on it . And it is 25 yards past this sign on your left, just after 2 beauty shops.

Hope you give it a try. Steve

been eating at the hole in the wall and love it. Problem is they don't have prices on the menu as the first meal was 80 baht for 2 and the last one was 170. I think they are taking the piss.

Will give a try Steve, it's right to give it a plug as I certainly wouldn't have stumbled upon it.

Copied it into a BlocNotes on my laptop.

Cheers mate.

I’m always looking for the real deal on Thai food in Pattaya and I’ll certainly give it a go on my next visit.

Can I just check that the cow pat gow doesn’t actually involve any cow pat?

Thanks for the pics, I'll give the place a try tomorrow if it's not too hot out. Can she make dishes for takeaway? What time does she close?

Yes she makes dishes for takeaway . She open's up early around 7:00 am . Closing time can range between 6:00 and 8:00 pm

it depends how busy she is

Ask her or you could do it for her - put up some english words with some thai words (or pictures) next to them on a menu so it'll open up the falang market for her.

I ate at the Greek food opposite her last Songkran and dont recall seeing the thai food. Maybe some bright english posters to liven the shop and make it easier to spot as well?

This is a very good idea, ive often thought that these kind of eateries were missing a trick.

Im sure there are many more like me who like to see some sort of menu in English.

The location sounds about right based on Steve's pictures. Here's a link to the corner on Pattaya Photo Guide

The ones that can charge another 50% are those that usually cater to the tourist market. Kiss's on Soi Diana is smart ; it had a great location as well as a menu in english/russian(?) as well as pictures. Although the food sucks , its making tons of money!

Lots of restaurants charging well in excess of what the government calls the "fair price" are full of Thais. Thais tend to vote with their feet as far as restaurants go, so if a restaurant is full of Thais there's usually a good reason why. Likewise, if it is devoid of customers. The real cheap places start cutting back by opting for the cheapest broken rice and it goes on from there. Guys who aren't quite sure about what's what in the food stakes, could do a lot worse than starting off in the food courts you find at the likes of Tops and employ a bit of trial and error to see what they like/don't like (and they'll be paying local prices).

Great idea. Wish more eating places would do the same. Can't count how many times I've passed on a small Thai place I would love to try but have no idea what they are offering to eat. I know other visitors who do the same since we are Thai-less as far as reading goes.

Will look forward to giving the place a try since I usually stay at Areca Lodge---Thanks for the tip/plug!
