kanchanaburi to namtok, a photographic journey.

Recommended Posts

The original plan was to take the train from Kanchanaburi to Namtok, then to take the bus to Hellfire Pass. Well, that was the plan.During the journey we came to an abrupt stop on the tracks. It seems that a very large clump of bamboo had fallen down across the track, soo the train couldnt get through. But, it seems that there was not one(single) machete to be found anywhere on the train. we were going to be stuck. Now came the time that i misunderstood someone on the train, who i swear said to me that we would have to get off the train and walk along the tracks to reach the next station. The next station being Namtok. She said this wasnt very far from where we actually were.

So i walked along the track with other people of the train. 30 mins later we reached a station(not Namtok), and the lady said we had to wait for a minibus.( seems that i had wrongly joined a tour group, the lady being the leader who was not impressed that i tagged along. Anyway she agreed to drop me off near Namtok, so i could find my own way back). Finally did make it to Namtok, where they were quite a few people waiting for the train to go back down the valley. By now i was fooked, so i bought a ticket to come back dowm.

I never did make it to Hellfire pass, which is a shame, as that was the only reason i took the train that day.

The journey back to Kanchanaburi will be in a part 2, to be posted soon..................

Enjoy the journey.

Nice pics. You could have booked a minbus tour which are pretty cheap. they go to a local village to ride on the Elephants, raft down the river then they go to Hell Fire Pass and the Museum there. Meal included in some place by the road. After that they head to a local water fall and then to the train which takes you back to Bridge on the River Kwai and then back to your hotel. I forget how much it was but I think about 800-1000 baht. Nice day out.

I enjoy your travelogues, and thanks for posting them, but could you put them in context, please.

- Do you travel on your own (I note you refer to "I" rather than "we")?

- Do you speak, understand or read Thai?

Thanks.

"Eagerly Drink" - I bet you did!

Is somebody subletting the train loos - "The cabinet is special 100bht" ? Sounds like a Google translation from French.

Nice pics, some of the tour group look less than happy campers though.

Cheers +1

Surely a match or a lighter would have cleared the Bamboo :)

Lovely piccies.

I did the trip once and stayed at the River Kwai village hotel, nice place, Hellfire Pass was awesome.

I came back from the hotel to Kanchanaburi on the service bus, just outside Kanchanaburi he pulled slowly into the Esso garage to fuel up, with a bus load of passengers.

the reason he was slow because he had run out of diesel, so then up with the engine cover and bleed the air out of the engine, only in Thailand. :)

When i say I, i am talking just about me, and no one else. All the threads i have made over the past couple of days i have been travelling by myself, and to be honest, ive really loved it. Not having to wait for someone else, or argue with them, or any thing. Its been great just doing what i want, when i want.

The Thai bit, my thai is not that good, actually its shit, but ive not had any real problems with the lack of thai or lack of english.

I wouldn't be bothered if mates from the UK asked to come along with me. The more the merrier. I just mean being alone and away from TGs. All their constant moans, nagging and complaining would really spoil what I consider a really good day out.
