I wonder why he was so crap every time he pulled on a Gunners jersey.

I had high hopes for him, even had him in my fantasy football team for a bit. Some players just do not transcend national borders,he has been playing much better back home in Russia.I always remember Diego Forlan playing for Man Utd and he was mostly crap but went on to better things after he left. Many others as well.

Hi,   None of Bayern's players were on duty.

Agreed. I thought they were two fairly decent games. The Greeks looked well-organised once they settled down - is the Russian captain related to the plonker by the same name at Arsenal?

Going for Spain today even though they are not even playing a striker. Fancy Croatia to beat Ireland.

Manny got robbed last night.

Hi,

The same guy. Looked different class. Rarely played so well for us. I was impressed by Russia and Germany won against a very negative Portugal.Potugal looked better when they went behind and had to open up their play. The Dutch were unlucky but may be going home. Ireland were well beaten by Croatia who have 2 very good forwards and Edourdo and Kranjaer(???) on the bench. Spain always find Italy a tough team to beat.

England v France this evening. People not giving England much of a chance and the expectation in the UK is very very low for the team. I have never seen this kind of low profile in my life, they are normally hyping them up as better than they really are and then are devastated when they get beat and win fuck all. It is pretty strange and could mean that they might actually do something at this event. I am going for France to win but would not be surprised if England win although they have been playing poorly in the run up to the competition. Ukraine v Sweden... can the home side produce anything? Who knows, they might be grabbed by some supernatural force and play excellent all the way through this tournament or they could play shit, they do have guys who can score goals. So I am going to go for them to beat Sweden although it might be a draw.

Hi,

I had a small bet for Sweden to qualify from this group so I hope they win tonight and the other game is drawn. Good luck.

Anyone know if the TV problem has been resolved?

Not on TRUE according to their crawler during the movies early this morning. They are, as an "apology", offering free upgrades to their more expensive services or something...so you can watch the Disney Channel.

Thanks....... the Bangkok Post said they expected to sort out a deal with Grammy giving them the EPL rights in exchange. However I haven't heard if that's been worked through in time for tonight. I shall hang around my telly and if the dispute has not been sorted I'll nip down to Shenanigans.

Thanks

PS.....Just heard that the free upgrades are for 24 hrs.........

PPS ...Just seen that the upgrade is from 10th June 'til the end of the competition.

.....also that the NBTC have 'held firm' and are imposing a daily fine of 20,00 bt on True until the shenanigans are resolved.

Shenanigans here I come!

England played better than I expected but could only score a goal from a set piece. France played worse than I expected so I guess a draw is a fair result. Ukraine played good and I am very happy for them,England have to play them in their last game and that is going to be difficult to say the least. Anyway all the teams have played now in the first set of games and the stand out teams for me are probably Russia,Ukraine,Italy,Spain,Germany. Not sure about Spain now as they do not have any real strikers,David Villa is not playing and Torres is just plain hopeless. I actually fancy Ukraine to come through their group if their main front man can stay the course, without him they will have problems.Still not sure if England will go through.

I think the games have been pretty good as far as "first games" go. The Germans and Italians have impressed me, but I'm not quite sure about the 4-6-0 system that the Spaniards and French seemed to be playing. Looking forward to the Holland v Germany game on Wed

Hi,

Solid game from England and I think they may have won with Rooney playing. Great to see Schevchenko back on form. He was great playing for Kiev and Milan but his journey to Stamford Bridge was a disaster for his career. Still one of the best strikers over the last 20 years.

The Dutch are having a howler and could go out after their defeat to Ze Germans. Ronaldo of Portugal who has scored some 60 goals last season for his club cannot hit the back of the net for his national team. He missed a sitter earlier on but Portugal still won.

My firery, 4 yr, on/off gik......(Let's make babies Saturday........Damning my eyes and smashing her phones against my condo floor and wall on Sunday....... 'What Ap'ing me love songs with her new phone on Monday)........ has her own condo with 2 non-Truevisions tvs, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom!

Fortunately for me, we were still very much 'on' on the day of the England game. Instead of making the trip to Shananigans, I found myself in her bedroom, comfortably propped up with fluffy pillows....waited on with a bottle of wine and a large packet of crisps! Having just sampled her noted skills in the lounge I couldn't think of a more perfect way to conclude the evening. She had the good sense to take some bedding into the other room and leave me blissfully to it.

Judged on the stats we will have our work cut out against Sweden....Or anybody really. Joe Hart the busiest GK in the first round. No shots by any of our forwards.......a record number of blocks by our defense........not much possession.......more passes astray. Never once beating Sweden in a competitive match!!

............I'll be watching with hope but not much expectation............ It's currently off with, 'firery gik'......... So it's likely I'll be watching from Shananigans. I'm getting the feeling that for me Euro 12 has already peaked!

Hi,

Spain look back on song after hammering the Irish. The English have never beaten the Swedes in a competitive game. Is tonight the first time ?

Yep and they have a striker now as Torres got two good goals. I fancy Spain to beat Croatia and Italy to beat Ireland and both them teams to go through. England if they played like they did the other night could be heading for a draw, looking forward to seeing Ukraine playing again.

Hi,

England will have to play one or the other in QF(if they qualify). Not an easy task.

I do not think they will get that far unless they play a different game and can score some goals.

England won,good on them.

Rooney for Young and England can improve. England showed good spirit which is not always the case.

A lot of complaints in the bar last night how they sat back after scoring their 1st goal.

They did, and it was nearly their undoing, need to improve against the home nation Ukraine, I would drop Young for Rooney and Milner for Walcott. Leave Carroll and Welbeck as front two strikers with Rooney tight in behind them, Rooney seems to do well in this role, running at defenders, only need the draw, but with first place up for grabs which would suit us better than second, will Hodgson want an all out win or settle for the draw, I would go for an all out win personally!!! And score as many goals as we can, so we don't have to meet the Spanish in the quarter finals!!

I get the impression that the referees have been well briefed about the antics of some players and lots of 'free kicks' being turned down. Ribery has sussed that and is concentrating on actually playing football - some others are finding the (diving) habit hard to break though.

It has got very annoying over the years to see a guy who has hardly been touched rolling over three or four times like a car has hit him.If I had my way you would be banned for life for unsportsman like conduct. I always remember Rivaldo standing by the corner flag and some other player kicked to ball at/to him and it hit him on his legs and he went down gripping his face, disgraceful.

Apparently after Drogba's departure from Chelsea there have been a number of redundancies made........2 physios, four stretcher bearers, 2 stunt coordinators and a drama coach!!

I was vacuuming once and just knocked the telly and Drogba fell over!!

I hate this crap and commentators that sigh and just call it "part and parcel of the game."

Jamie above has the right idea for team selection for England's next game. If Cahill is fit I'd put him in for Lescott.

Greece kicking Russia out is an excellent example of the importance that should be attached to Ukraine's threat.
