I have points so I am going to stay at the Hilton for a few nights. I know it is expensive otherwise. Anyone stayed there and had overnight guests in?

I haven't stayed in Pattaya's Hilton, but know many that have. They are not guest friendly. Expect to pay 1,000 baht or more to bring a lady in with you.

A case of how to be ripped off by experts.

If they tell you up front it's not a rip off. If they waited until you were checking out and then presented you with the bill, as some do, then it would be a rip off. Knowing about it ahead of time allows you to vote with your feet.

Not exactly. If you have booked a week or two, and paid in advance, then on your first night being a lady back and find out about the extra charge, it's kinda late to vote with your feet. Even if you have only paid for one night, check in at 3pm, and then wander back at 2 am with a lady, it's to late to vote with your feet. Most don't find out about the extra charge before they check in, but when they bring a lady back to the room.

LOL I guess I am forwarned. How do they know you have an un-authorized guest? I wasn't going to stop by the desk and tell them I picked up a hooker.

When my Thai wife and I were dating (yes I screwed up and married one), she booked a room in BKK. We got back from dinner and drinking late one evening and an employee of the hotel stopped us and told me I couldn't have a girl in my room. I told him it was not my room it was her room, she booked it. THere was a heated discussion in Thai and he backed off. Just for good measure she called the night manager and gave him hell from the room. After we got married the same thing happened, only it was my room and she was my wife. I told them and they appoligised. Both times it was fun to watch but I often wonder if the employees are not stuck in the middle. Just becausee an old bastard like me is with a young Thai woman doesn't mean she is a hooker.

In any case the room is free so if I have to pay a couple of times I guess it isn't a big deal. I will move to more guest friendly arrangements when my time with them is up.

Tip the concierge a few hundred baht, or the night security and you will be fine. If this for some unforeseen reason does not work follow the below tip.

As you booked a double room, allow your evening companion to complete the second register form for your room.

I had this problem before at a certain hotel and the above was how, the joiner fee was exploited.

I can't argue with that.

I would consider it an affront, being dictated to as to who I can entertain in my room.

A hotel with that penchant should be avoided.

Every hotel has the right to charge a joiner fee for any UNREGISTERED guest who spends the night in a guest's room, even if the guest has paid for double occupancy. It doesn't happen often in Thailand these days, but hotels in some parts of the world won't allow unregistered guests to stay at all.

Also note that hotels like the Hilton won't allow you to register a guest one day and register a new girl the next. A joiner fee isn't a scam; it's a policy by which the hotel discourages its guests from bringing back unregistered guests.

That said, you lose nothing by trying to walk the girl up to your room, especially if it's not in the wee hours of the morning. A lot of hotels with joiners' fees will enforce the joiner-fee policy selectively. If you're discrete, they won't ask for it.

But if you're challenged, it's best just to pay the extra 1,000 baht. Arguing the matter with the front desk with a girl at your side will cause you and even worse, the girl, to lose face. If you're determined to protest, do it the next morning with the day manager.

Evil is 100 % correct my tip only worked twice, before the hotel management called me regarding the situation and were deeply concerned about my bigamy.

A compromise was reached though, and the problem was forever resolved.

Wouldn't stay at a hotel that charged a joiner fee. Having said that, it's only the high end ones that do so you blokes that stay there can afford it.

You are 100% correct

My mistake was essentially allowing my friend to pre-book 3 nights in bangkok.

He was duly sacked from arranging travel arrangements for our group after this. :llaugh

It is a mistake that has never been made since.

On the subject of cost. I stay in hotels 70 to 80 nights a year minimum. I normally stay at Hilton so I have over 200K in points. I can stay at no cost. I also fly a lot so I have airline points so my flight is $80.00 I think this makes me king of the cheap bastards. Now if I can get girls into the Hilton for free I'm a happy camper.
