I'm returning to Pattaya for the first time in a few years and am considering staying at The Baboona Beach resort on Beach Rd and would appreciate feedback from members who may have stayed there. I like the beach rd area and historically have stayed mainly at the Flipper / Sabai lodge.

Thanks

I didn't stay but did check it out, including one of the rooms and was impressed. The rooms are small but well furnished and a great view if you are on a higher floor. It is on my shortlist next trip.

I have not stayed there but here is the reason. I usually get back to the room sometime the next day. In reality unless you get a cab you have to get off the baht bus and walk the full length of Soi 3 at some ungodly hour. I have just never felt it was a safe option and this is one of the reasons that I dont stay at places on Beach Road. I have no issues walking down these soi's say up to midnight. As a matter of interest I was in Soi 2 last trip (Sabai) and there seems to be a resident lady boy who has set up business in the darker spots. Not good IMHO.

Great point!

Even Soi Diana has a bunch of propositioning ladyboys often.

I would have no issue walking up Soi Diana any time of the day or night. Its well populated and has lots of light. The same can not be said for the soi.s leading from Central Road to Beach Road, other than perhaps Soi 6.

Motorcycle taxi will run you down the soi.

Hi Seanss,

I suspect that you would only have to pay rack rates over Christmas and the new year period. You can almost always find it at a discount on Agoda and other sites. I'm paying £35GBP per night for a superior sea view room with breakfast for 2 included

Just returned from Thailand and so as promised i will share my thoughts on Baboona Beach.

I had two four night stays sandwiched around a stay in Bangkok the first in a standard sea view on the third floor and the second in a deluxe sea view on the sixth ( Top ) floor. The rooms were almost identical but the sea view was obviously superior from the higher floor and i spent a fair bit of time on the spacious balcony watching the world go by on Beach Road. For me the location was ideal, right on beach Road near the junction with soi 4 about 5 minutes walk from the Dusit hotel. I walked down Soi 4 several times in the middle of the night and the road was perfectly safe and well lit courtesy of light from the hospital and the hotels that line the entire soi. I paid around 1700 baht per night which included a buffet breakfast for two and complimentary daily mini bar items ( Singha, Coke, Water, Milk and Fruit Juice ). I've stayed in far worse rooms in four star hotels but overall would rate Baboona Beach as a very decent three star hotel. The rooms also have flat screen TV and DVD / CD player with DVD's available to borrow from the library

The Hotel was guest friendly ( there were condoms in the mini bar ) but whilst I was there i would say that the p4p market only accounted for around 25% of business. Perfect place for a holiday with a daily / weekly / monthly girlfriend but probably not suitable for long stay visitors or if you planned to take back multiple girls a day. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful and as someone who doesn't take a laptop on holiday i appreciated the computers for guest use in the lobby and the library.

On the down side there was no pool but is this really a problem when you are 15 seconds from the beach? I also found the air conditioning unit in the third floor room to be quite noisy although this wasn't a problem in the sixth floor room.

regards

Thanks for the review. I was suprised to read that there is no pool. Nothing would get me into the sea at Pattaya so have to say that the place is off my list of potentials.

One option i have done twice - head down to the hard rock and tip your way to a cabana.

I just went directly to the pool at Hard Rock with 2 girls and paid for a cabana. It wasn't my idea, I read in a trip report that another BM had done it. I paid at the entrance to the pool from the hotel. Can't remember how much I paid.
