ADSL internet cafe, 1b per minute.  Massage and beer bars on premise. Great location on Second Road less then 50 meters to soi 6. Hotel is located next to the Tourist Police Station. Hotel is American owned. Excellent cheap resturant less then 15 meters from hotel. Gregs kitchen early bird specials for 169.

Down side is noisy beer bars next store. Music stops at 2AM.

New fridge, clean rooms, no pool. Hotel has a safe. No lock boxes. No balcony. Remember the room rate is 350 per day. Other hotels have more amenties but the price is alot higher. This is a excellent value for the price.

If your still looking for a room during the high season. Sky-Top has availability and my hotel the Alamo is located 50 meters away from Sky-Top on 2nd Rd. I own 50% of a newly renovated 9 room backpacker type guest house. Some rooms have ac others fans. No fridge or tv. New mattress and we are guest friendly. The price is cheap and the place is clean. Rates are 250 and up. Book thru Sky-Top.   email skytop2003@hotmail.com

I just talked to the owner of Sky-Top Hotel. Their high speed ADSL internet cafe is now open 24 hours a day.

There may be some HIGH SEASON cancellations.

Update on prices. They have gone up to 450 for small room and same increase on other rooms. Owner doesn't accept credit cards. He requires that you wire tranfer a fairly high deposit in my case $200USD and it cost me $30USD for the bank cost (ouch).

I've looked at a few other rooms and they need a coat of paint and the ceiling tiles are shabby. The rooms are clean.

I would downgrade my recommendation from excellent to good mainly because of the wire transfer.

I think you guys are a bit harsh when you refer to the owners policy. Your told up front and it's up to you if you want to send the money.

FWIW,

Rippoff is when a guy will book a hotel for two weeks in high season and doesn't bother to cancel his reservation and the hotel is stuck high and dry. That's why hotels require a deposit. No shows brought this on.

BigDUSA,

No, ripoff is is when a business associate of a hotel owner posts an erroneous description of that hotel, recommends the hotel to other boardies and states that his review is accurate and that the hotel represents excellent value.

I wonder how many boardies booked into these shabby rooms based on your recommendation?  Perhaps the no-shows were people who got wind of the fact that the place wasn't as described.

As for wiring a 200USD deposit for a 10USD hotel, even in Pattaya that has got to be some sort of joke.

Tom

p.s.  I'll still buy you a drink at the Flamingo if you are around next month. ;)

Cheshire Tom,

Remember it's a 450 per night hotel with new ac, beds,  mattress and the walls need to be painted. High speed internet and new pool table. One has to balance what you get for what you pay.

Ib at the RG told me last year he had to start asking for deposit because of all the no shows. I don't kow if he did start this. It's not just the owmer of the Sky-Top who has started doing this. I AGREE the deposit is a JOKE and I told the owner I would not pay it the next time I come to town.

IMHO, it's still a good buy for a low end hotel. Stop by and see for yourself and let us all know what you think.

PM me when you hit town and we will get together for a drink or six.

I was up front about my business arrangment with the owner on another deal.

New owner and NO deposit policy. Pete has told me that when high season is over her plans on painting the rooms and installing in room safe. Same pricing as before.

I don't pay deposits in Thailand since there are so many hotels that don't require deposits.  But I can understand why hotel owners want deposits; it's a reasonable way to business.

But by wire transfer, fugedaboudit.  I'm not jumping through hoops to stay anywhere.
