Shopping nightmare at Wal-Mart

Recommended Posts

I just went through the local Walmart and it looks like the place was vandalized by a mob. There's dead tree leaves all over the place at the entrance, and a lot of empty cardboard stands with Black Friday deals written on them.

'Strange that unions would deliberately antagonize the shopping public today. And Walmart's is a demographic I wouldn't think unions would really WANT much to antagonize. They have what they believe is an overriding objective, I realize, but even so. 'Seems like a high price to pay. I wonder how much impact on Walmart's bottom line for the day the protests & picketing will end up having. I suspect it won't be much, but I'll be as interested to see as anyone, for or against.

The clip in MM's OP reminds me of the scenes that played out some years ago at the free BBQ buffets at Jade House. If anyone left their arm extended too long, there was a big risk one of the hungrier guys would start to chew on it.

About 1:10 into the video, at the bottom of the picture, some guy reaches over a woman's shoulder and tries to grab her phone. She bites him until he pulls away.

Now I know why I hate shopping.

It's basically rioting/looting. Senseless violence for personal gain. Cops should shot on site IMO, or to be more politically correct - Tase the morons

I expect the only thing Wal-Mart got right in handling this situation was to make everyone pay for their purchases, so it can't be looting.

True but it is the next best thing to rioting.

I still think they should be punished for that behavior. It's like the Vancouver riots in Canada a few years ago. We've taken a lot of people to court over those incidents, mostly from video footage off peoples phones.

And I never understood why the stores do that crap in the first place. All the high in demand stuff should be in the back and anybody who wants it has to stand in line like a normal person and asks for it when they get to the cashier. Then it gets brought to them in a reasonable manner, first come first served. Most of the battles like that happen over Big Ticket items and it could be kept to a minimum (sure it would still happen, just less of it) if they thought about it. Fighting, pushing, budding in line, etc... all that gets you tossed out with NO purchases, NO exceptions. That's how it should get done.

I didn't dispute your characterizing it as rioting...just the looting was likely not happening.

As for the other law and order stuff...yeah, that would help.

The people who go to Wal-Mart are a special breed....I say they deserve each other.

Ha Ha, so true. Where else can you find Fat, Hairy, Spandex-wearing, underwear-showing, crotch scratching, mullet hair-do SHE-Beasts walking down the aisles every day of the week.

One way to stop all the nonsense would be to have the Black Friday deals only online. I don't suppose they'd do that, though.

I just stay away from the stores on days like that. Whatever they're selling isn't worth all the hassle. I can remember one year me and a friend tried to go to a mall in California the day after Thanksgiving. There was NOWHERE to park. I just gave up after a while.

Glasgow?

As many say the customers at Wallmart are a particular breed, or in-breed. The way these items are advertised and sold makes some sort of scrum likely, I wonder if they want this to happen.

It's probably just a matter of time before Wal Mart gets sued by someone injured in the riots. Of course they want it to happen. They want as many people in the stores as possible. .

Not really. It's a national discount chain, and they're quite good at delivering things at the lowest cost. Simples. Thus they tend to find themselves at the center of the Black Friday feeding frenzy. I really don't think there's anything in their advertising or store management that's inciteful or irresponsible. If Black Friday deals & bargains represent negligence, then one would have to sue "Black Friday", and "sales" altogether, rather than single out Walmart simply because they're successful. I've seen Best Buy and the Apple Store with people spending the night outside waiting for the store to open, too. I'm only in Walmart on an occasional basis, and I don't do Black Friday period, but I'm not going to start blaming the store or company for the behavior of unruly, selfish, pushy, greedy shoppers. If a store employee pushes a shopper down, bites him, hits him, or otherwise injures him, then by all means, put the store on trial. If it's another shopper or shoppers, then put THEM on trial. We've GOT to get back to putting responsibility where it belongs instead of pretending to be able to get inside the heads of people who do bad things in order to blame somebody ELSE.

They ARE to blame. It was poor planning on their part. Again if they had planned better, hired more security, and had Big Ticket items out of reach where they couldn't stampede each other trying to grab them then no one or at least less people would get hurt. I know cause I've done security for such events before. Poor planning and not enough staff means problems. I've had lines around the block midnight openings/sales for Apple, H&M, Holt Renfrew and piles more. After everything is said and done if anything goes wrong it's most likely because no one planned for it. In the end it is the responsiblity of whomever is hosting the event (ie. Walmart in this case). Which makes them liable. The instigaters and people who caused most of the problems get charged with assault and other similar charges but Walmart gets sued for negligence.

Jomtien Beach but fewer aisles.

Or better yet, a 60" loaded with features at around USD 3K. ( carry that to your nearest dealer with your people)

The prices drop on electronics. I have no issues about my living expenses in LOS. If inflation takes over at some point I'll suffer along with the rest of the world.
