Sorry I cannot give you the name but there is a well known place there which is a floating hotel on the river. I stayed there is a really good hotel about 10 minutes from the main street but cannot recall the name. I went on a package deal through a Pattaya travel agent and perhaps you might like to call in to any of the hundreds there and ask.

Try this one - great accommodation to suit anyone, good food, good bar, pool, and in the middle of the action - you won't regret it:

I've been to Kanchanburi twice, stayed at this place as well as a place near it called Noble Night. Both good, I don't recall the pool at Pong Phen, must be new. I preferred Noble Night, but don't get a 'downstairs' room past the pool, as they are small and exposed to the sun.

Ive ben there a few times, each time i pass the cemetary and turn left, past the small museum and then turn right. All along that road are bars restaurants and hotels. I suggest you just go and get a hotel when you are there. Had alot of fun in the bars there and enjoyed the railway and museums etc.Stay a few nights and try to get out to the hot springs, they are a little way out of town, but not a problem getting a small trip organised by one of the travel shops.

Pong Phen has had a pool for around 5 years. They put it in when Noble Nights was being built (as it had a pool in the plans), and Noble Nights then copied Pong Phen's Thai Bungalow idea too. They are right next to each other and off the same 'driveway' (or sub-Soi). Quite a number of ex-Navy blokes stay at PP for a few days around Anzac Day.
