Thailand's Jutanugarn Sisters

Recommended Posts

Best of luck to Ariya in today's final round of the Thailand Ladies Open at Siam Country Club.

If you follow sport in Thailand, you will/may be aware of the golfing Jutanugarn sisters, Ariya (17) and Moriya (18). Both had successful careers as amateurs/juniors in the US before turning professional in the last few of months and qualifying for the European and US tours respectively.

Ariya, who turned 17 in November, is currently leading the Honda LPGA Thailand Open by 3 strokes going into the final round - impressive by any standards, so best of luck to her.

Too bad they will be playing on different tours this season.Great coverage here in the US.We had 4 hours today. And see they are adding another course adjacent. It's difficult not to follow it on the LPGA site since our coverage is delayed 18 hours. We have 4.5 tomorrow.

It'll be interesting to see how Moriya copes on the US tour against the best Koreans and Japanese.

Well, considering her finish last week in Australia and Ariya playing well this week,I think they have a bright future.Plus Moriya qualified for the CME Group Titleholdrs event to finish the season just down the road in Naples.Only the top 3 in each even qualify.

I would hope that Ariya can hold it together for the win. She is a pretty girl but it appears that fast food has gotten the best of her. Must be a lot of pressure for such a young girl. She did look fairly composed and relaxed yesterday.

Except on 17 & 18.Her caddy surely didn't help her on 18 yesterday.I hope she continues playing well today. She is -1 thru 4 and up by 3.She appears to be about 4 sizes bigger than Moriya but seems a sweet and well mannered young lady.

She's up 4 thru 5.Hopefully her caddy will do more than carry her bag today. He cost her at least 2 strokes yesterday.Too bad Moriya had a terrible week w/an 80 on Saturday.

She'll be disappointed but a tremendous result for Ariya.

Sometimes you have to lose a few before your learn the art of winning on tour.

Her caddy should've got her to lay-up on the 18th rather than going for the green on her 2nd shot. With the benefit of hindsight and all that. :thumbup

Perhaps if she didn't employ a Caddy and also ditched the Golf Cart, she'd see some health benefits from this 'sport.'

Golf cart? :clueless

It was VERY bad luck to have her ball plugged in the bunker. Taking a drop badly rattled her and she choked from there on. She hasn't learned yet to be conservative.

Is her caddy still alive after that horrible 18th? He cost her 2 strokes yesterday which I already mentioned. And no,hindsight played no part in it Tom.She is 2 up on 18 and only needs a 6 on a par 5.She hits her tee shot in the fairway.Yes I agree with you that her moron caddy should have said lay up.He IS there to do more than carry her bag.Instead she grabs a 3 wood (I think) and plugs the ball into the face of the sand trap. Here's where the SECOND idiot error by her caddy happens because he doesn't know the rules!

So she takes a stroke penalty and only needs 3 to win.She gets a drop ANYHERE behind when her ball was plugged. So she walks to the middle of the huge sand trap and drops the ball! Are a you kidding me! She can drop the ball ANYWHERE and her caddy lets her drop the ball in the trap! She could have dropped behind the trap (in the grass) and chipped on and won. Those moments only happen once in a career! 99% of the crowd was pulling for her of course. How wonderful it would have been.

On her hole in one,she didn't know it happened for a moment or two.She knew it was close and picked up her tee and it rollled in.Everyone goes crazy. She goes from 1 down to 1 up.

Altogether,very entertaining.

Dammit!

It is on TV today and I intentionally didn't follow it last night on the LPGA site so I could see it live (for me at least). At least I don't know the outcome.

Glad she finished well again. But Moriya had a crap week IIRC.Too bad Ariya didn't qualify for the season-ending CME with her finish last week.

Good recovery. She's just picked up another USD 75K for 4th in Singapore.

And off to Arizona in 10 days to play our tour while Ariya heads to the LET.

Yes. I'll be keeping an eye open for them. Astro is pretty good with it's golf coverage, both in the US and EU.

The Golf Channel is 24/7 here,so it covers all the US tours, including the Seniors but we get no LET coverage.Do you get a chance to see Feherty every week?He is hilarious and it's a great hour.Last week was Nicklaus.Very popular show here.

Astro has the Golf Channel here and it shows the US, EU and Asian Tours - we usually get Feherty on a Saturday teatime. The majors are usually on ESPN/Star/Fox, or whatever it's called nowadays but I always have a dig around and settle for whichever channel is transmitting Peter Allis's commentary. I must admit that I've avoided watching McIlroy's meltdown at the weekend ... :ninja:

Gary, in response to your comment about dropping it outside the bunker you are wrong. It has to be dropped in the bunker or go back to where shot was played. If she hadn't been in the bunker you are correct, she could drop more or less anywhere.

According to USGA;

Definitions

All defined terms are in italics and are listed alphabetically in the Definitions section.

The player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on the course, except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable.

If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke:

a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or

b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or

c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole.

If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in thebunker.

When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball orsubstitute a ball.
