Late arrival Hotel question

Recommended Posts

I'm arriving at 11:30 pm on a Thursday.  Assuming that it takes me 1hr to get through the airport and to a limo and another 2 hrs to get to pattaya is there a problem in checking into a popular hotel at that time of the early am?

Additionally, I'm looking for a nice hotel (up to $50-$75 per night) thats centrally located to the fun, with a pool, decent food, dd phones or an internet connection.  Ive read all (and I mean all) the hotel the hotel posts but most seem to focus on cheaper rates.  I want guest friendly, no problems, friendly staff, english speaking (hopefully).  I'm thinking there must be something between the $30 hotels and the Mariott.  The RG sounds great but  not centrally located.  I'm arriving Nov 6th, so time is short.  Any thoughts?

Most of the better hotels have 24 hour security and the front desk will be staffed.

I recently stayed at RG and found not nearly as "out of the way" as some people seem to think it is.  It's a three or four minute Baht Bus ride to the Walking St. area.  Baht buses pass the front door every few minutes at the most.

The RG has front desk staff 24/7.  Good luck!

Just started to make me think why a lot of people consider the Residence Garden out of the way; and I got a theory: While the RG is easy to reach with Bahtbus, and only 10 Minutes Walking to Walking Street, the problem (in my eyes) rises from the fact, that the vicinity of the location offers just plain nothing. For me it is no problem to walk 10 or 20 Minutes to the center, or take a cheap taxi or bus, when I stayy at a Hotel with a nice location by itself, be it quiet garden/park setting, be it an interesting neighborhood, a nice view, or some shopping or restaurant area I like, just areond the door. The RG has nothing to offer in it's vicinity, the street is loud, the view is not fantastic, there is no bar or restaurant (other than Captain's Corner) around; and that makes it a little dreadful.

I still like the rooms and the hospitality, but I rather stay either central or - if away from the bustle - in a nice, quiet location where I don't feel the need of going to town everytime I leave the premises.

aniteowl,

You may want to look at Areca Lodge, or Sandy Spring.  Both are relatively centrally located, and  have a pool.

I believe the Sandy Spring may be trying to go the "family oriented" route, and may try to charge joiner fees.  That is only what I have read though.

Let the board member know what you decide upon.

anitowl,

I arrive the same day around 10:30pm but I will be staying in Bangkok (Majestic Suites) until Saturday. Have you considered spending the first night in Bangkok and having a little fun instead of going directly to Pattaya?

Last trip I stayed at the Areca Lodge and the deluxe rooms sound just right for what you are looking for.

I'll be staying at the Penthouse whilst in Pattaya this time though because I want to experience the 'porn factor' and because it's right slap bang in the middle of eveything! ;D Otherwise I would have no hesitation in staying there again. [smiley=nod.gif]

See you at the FLB[smiley=cheers.gif]

You can always get Hard Rock from around 2500-3000B.

Rooms are small but you have all the extras of a decent hotell. Guest friendly as well.

Sandy Spring will not charge any extras for guests.

But they are talking about calling their seaview rooms "deluxe" some time next year, and charge more.

Today they only call their rooms standard and suites and you sometimes gets lucky with a seaview one for the standard rooms.

If you don't care about all the extras at Marriott/Hard Rock etc. Do like SoCalGuy said, pick a smaller one like Areca, Sandy, Dynasty (noice these days).

your first trip?

rather than rush, as another reader suggested, u may actually want to consider spending the first couple nights of your trip in bkk.  its a GREAT transition from LA to bkk to pattaya

otherwise as long as your hotel KNOWS you're arriving late, everything should be cool

as far as a place in pattaya, u might want to consider booking a room for a couple nights (maybe at the marriot) but then exploring to find a new room.  soi 13 what with the lek, dynasty, aa residence, sandy spring might be a good place to start (by the way, although it sounds like $$$ may not be an object, all these places are way less than $75 a night)

best of luck

Many of the airlines arrive around midnight and the hotels are use to guests arriving between 2 and 3 in the morning, just make sure that you tell them.  For what your willing to pay, you could get a nice suite at the Sunshine Vista apartments on Soi 3, just a few minutes from the Big C.
